RV roof collapse covered by insurance?

Would a insurance storeage policy cover a roof that partially collapsed? We paid a guy to keep snow off it but it's like a swimming pool up there this spring.

I had a small limb (<1/2โ€) fall on the top of my camper. When I saw it I removed it and saw a very small place in rubber that had a very very small hole so I put some chaulking on it. No signs of moisture on the inside, kept checks on it over time but no signs of damage for a year. I was checking the roof about a year later and noticed a soft spot, we file a claim. I did but the adjuster denied the claim, I spoke to the adjuster boss when his boss but still denied. In the end I had to replace the roof, cost me about $5k. Long story short if you have any damage file a claim immediately, afterward seeing that camper (4yrs old) it made me sick and mad) so I bought a fifth wheel.

See if your homeowners policy will cover all or partial. I have a million $ umbrella on mine. It will cover it.

Results might vary by insurance company. A couple of years ago we had a pretty good windstorm come through our area and it peeled back the front cap of my 5th wheel at the time. My insurance company National General at the time denied my claim stating that it was a maintenance issue (or lack of). When I took it in for repairs, there was another trailer which had the same thing happen to them, however, they had another company that covered their claim. I have since cancelled any and all ties with National General. They were also the insurance company on my homeowners policy through Allstate. My thinking was that if they denied a 2k claim, more than likely they would deny any homeowners claim that would most likely be substantial.

Tell your agent it has storm damage. Worst case you will be denied.

Neighbor stored their trailer in my field and it leaked during the winter. Messed it up pretty good. Their insurance totaled it and paid them probably more than it was worth. But it was a good outcome.

Is it the RV owners insurance or the land owners insurance? Do you have a contract with the owner of the storage yard? I think this would fall under the owner of the structure that collapsed.

But - ask your agent. Then let us know, I'm sure many are curious.

ask your agent, your policy may not be like mine or anyone else that responds.

Unless an adjuster for your ins company is also a member on this forum, no one here can give you a solid answer. here's my armchair opinion; damage to accumulation typically isn't covered. HOWEVER if your municipality declared a state of emergency due to record / rapid snowfall, and you can prove the damage occurred during that state, you might have a leg to stand on.

THe area had record snowfall. The guy where its stored looks after other people RV and they were all fine. From what I can tell the insulation is dry and the wood is not rotten, its like it got crushed.

The guy you paid didnโ€™t do his/her job. Sue him and file an insurance claim. Your independent agent is your friend.

Unless it could be tied to one catastrophic event...they will probably call it a maintenance issue.

A common joke is if you have a leaky rotted roof...go run it into a low hanging branch so the insurance will cover it.

I think you would have to ask your insurance agent.
It could posibly be considered lack of maintenance that caused the collapse. Was the collapse caused by one storm or a slow buildup over the winter?
