stopped up sink

I have a stopped up kitchen sink. I took the p-trap out and cleaned it out. No luck. I then pulled the trap out again and pushed a snake down the drain. That didn't work either. Even tried the baking soda and vinegar followed with hot water. I am new to the RV thing. I opened the grey tank valve and let out the water from that. The bathroom sink and shower drain as normal. I noticed there is 2 grey and 2 black tanks listed on the control board. Is it possible there is really 2 each? Each has a different reading. 1 grey and 1 black show them to be full and 1 grey and 1 black shows a low reading. I hope someone can enlighten me and tell me how to fix this problem.

Thank you all. There was a 2nd grey tank handle just in front of the drivers side wheel that I had never noticed.

Glad you found the handle. IMO, it was a very poor PDI you experienced if the dealer didn't show this to you. Poor manufacturer that can't be bothered to put labels on the side of the trailer, too, though, as has been said, even if they do that, they can screw that up and mix up the labels.

We know the black tank valve is for the black tank because when we pull it you can see what is coming out through the clear elbow in the line. Everything has worked well all the other times we have used the trailer. If it happens again we will pull the black tank and see if that works again. Let's hope we don't have the problem again. Thanks for you help.

My husband just emptied the black tank and the drain drained. Could there have been some type of air lock between the two tanks? No other gray drains were stopped up just the kitchen. Weird I'd say. Thanks for the help.

You state he just emptied the black tank and the drain drained. If you are sure that it was the black tank that he drained then the sink wold appear to be plumbed to the black tank. I doubt this is so but what may be so is the valves are mislabeled. I do not think there would be any type of airlock.

OK we now have a problem with our kitchen sink draining. We have a 2015 KZ Durango 276BH and have used it for 4 weeks during the summer with no problem and all of a sudden today it won't drain. We have checked and done everything you folks have suggested in the above post with no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help you can give.

Has your unit got a grey tank valve for the galley? When you drained it did it appear to empty? That is did you hear the water running out of the tank? Does you valve handle use a cable system to the actual valve? The common causes of the sink not draining are the tank is full or the P trap is clogged.

All fifth wheels have a separate grey tank for the kitchen sink because of the difference in height to the bathroom.

Very not true. I've had several and none had a separate tank for the kitchen sink. Where did you get that information?

My 5th wheel has a gray tank for bath shower and bath sink; it also has a grey tank for kitchen sink; it also has the black tank for body waste.

Hey TrickyRicky,

Being an RV Tech you should know there are NO ABSOLUTES.
Yes it is more common to see a separate 'galley' tank now a days then in past BUT not ALL have them

My '07 does but it's the first one that did.
Heck I've had RVs that only had one (1) waste tank. Even had ones that only had black and no grey.

Your experience is limited.......most likely cause you are still young.
Don't worry......as you age you will see changes and then understand there are NO ABSOLUTES

No problem Old Biscuit just trying to help another RV'er and used the wrong wording and got taken to task for it, at least the OP found that he did have another grey tank.

Yup I am young and still learning something new everyday just turned 68 in June so still got a few years to go and maybe another few RV's as well to go along with the 10 I have owned since 1971.
Have a great day
Rick

You're 68 :H

Sorry thought with your statement that you had to be a young whippersnapper and just hadn't much experience under your belt
I took it the same way. I am 61 and have had my restoration shop for 30 years and it seems like when I think I know all about a particular car I find out I didn't. We never stop learning I guess.

robsouth so sorry if I have provided any false information. I would be very interested in knowing what brand and model of fifth wheel you had that did not have a seperate grey tank. It would be useful information as I work in the RV industry as a tech and and crawl under an average of 3 - 4 units a day so get pretty familiar with dump valves. Again sorry if I mislead anybody with my information just going from experience and have never seen a non galley grey tank and hope i never do as it would be a disaster if the grey tank was full and somebody had a shower.

"I sent Larry and Dale emails and asked what year their 5ers are if its that important to you to know."

Its not that important to know just thought you would know did not mean to cause you to have to send emails to anybody sorry.

" The fact that others here and my 5er proves your blanket statement wrong that all have 2 gray tanks."

You and others do no have to prove my blanket statement wrong it was wrong. I will be very careful if I make any further posts to not make any blanket statements.

" Yes all 3 of ours have the toilet and shower and a sink on the upper level."

Do you know if there is a check valve in the drain from the kitchen sink that prevents back flow if the grey tank is full and water is drained in shower and sink on upper level. Just asking out of curiosity don't go to any trouble to find out if you know that's fine if not just disregard

"You shouldn't take this wrong as I was not putting you down just correcting a wrong statement for everyone else reading the post."

I have corrected the statement so others will not be led into believing that wrong information if they read the post and not your correction.
