Storage Down South

Question: Was thinking about storing my 38ft down in Hemet, CA and was told that I should put pails of water inside my unit. I will be storing my 5th wheel between March and October. The unit will be stored under a roof. How many pails do you think I would need, and do you think this is really necessary due to the heat that gets to be over 100 degrees. Have you heard of food can, toothpaste, etc. exploding due the extreme heat?

I was told one fellow that has a unit in Arizona has a 45 gallon drum he fills and leaves inside, I gather it must be a park model or something, not a regualar RV.

I live in Phoenix and store our trailer in a covered facility. I've never thought of putting water jugs while stored. I assume to keep the humidity up so that woods and other interior parts do not dry out and warp, crack etc. With 4 trailers over 25 years I've never had a problem.

We do not keep canned foods, soda or perishables of any kind in the trailer. Toothpaste, soap, cleaners etc are but so far no trouble. Did have solid deodorant sticks melt a bit. Doesn't seem to get frying hot inside even in the heat of the summer. Shade really helps keep the trailer looking nice for years.

I put 5 or 6 gallon jugs throughout each of my Park Models on all my rentals in Yuma. Worked for me for the last 14 years. Make sure and take the lids off. LOL
One of my renters left a 12 pack of pepsi in the ref and somehow I missed it. They exploded. Heck of a mess. Not the best idea to leave can goods although my DW leaves them sometimes in our Yuma House with no problems. It is well insulated. I put about 15 gallon jugs in my 3 br Home in Yuma during the summer.
