It’s that time again to start doing homework on tires… running 215/75/17.5 and here is what I’ve found-

In terms of cost-

Cheapest- Saliun
Middle- Cooper Work Series RHT
Top- GoodYear G114

Need to save some cash, anyone running the Cooper Work series? I have a friend that purchases a new Grand Design and paid for the Cooper upgrade. That is what he is running but only has 1.5 years of limited use on them.

My RV scales in at 16,750#

I'll be the Wet Blanket here: This morning on I90 approx 25 miles East of Cleveland doing 65, tire temps all norm and within a couple of degrees of each other, Pressure 135 (set cold @ 125) again all four within a couple of pounds of each other. Tires are 4 years old with 24K miles on them.
Left Front BLEW with a Bang, took out the fender skirt and bent up the J-Panel.
This is my second Sailun to fail, had one couple of years ago threw off the complete tread, but never lost pressure so don't know when or where it happened.

They've been out and popular for at, or over, 10 years. That's not exactly brand new. I bought my first set in 2013. Those tires were still on the trailer when I sold it in 2021.

I guess that I didn't think they have been around that long.... It seams like I've only been hearing their name over the past 3 years or so.... Thats good info, Thank You

sailun started in the commercial tractor area, they have been around for a lot longer than people think.

Sailun S637 in 16" and 17.5" were being used by the regional service industry on trucks and trailers in the 2009 era.
The 16" S637 load G first came out as a LT for trucks and trailers like the 17.5" S637 are now.
I bought six LT S637 load G in 2010 for a GN triaxle trailer. Due to high tariff on imported LT tires Sailun changed lettering to the ST tire to get around those high fees sometimes in the 2010-2011 era (lower costs to the consumer). There now a ST although no changes were made according to Sailun reps/dealers.

Lots of new folks to the trailer towing world so naturally most know little about ST/P/LT tires on trailers or issues/non issues with brands of tires we use on trailers over the years.

They got some bad press a couple years ago when they moved their plant to Vietnam, and had a rash of failures. They recalled a bunch of tires, and have been doing fine since then. I just bought my new set last November.

The great argument , a better tire , less expensive, and rare that you read a failure . Saliun has a much better track record than Goodyear by far .

Agreed, BUT just hate the fact that a simple tire shredding could cause so much $$$ damage .. To me, Sailuns just seam too new to judge just yet?? Perhaps I am over thinking it?

IMO Goodyear had to step up , they were tearing up too many RV’s . ?? No doubt I’m sure some Sailuns have come apart , but it’s rare . I’ve never worried about tire damage or any other damage for that matter , that’s what I pay the insurance company all that money to cover that stuff.

I have heard nothing but stellar reports on the Sailun, but all I can think of is what will happen after a tire blow out with RV damage ?? Will they stand up like Goodyear has done to folks in the past?

I am running GY G114's now, but was trying to NOT spend $425 per tire.. working off retirement budget now

Lot of tire companies have jumped on the G, and H rated RV tires in recent years , and as said IMO the Sailun are the best .

I see a lot of people glossed over the 17.5" size which is beyond the Endurance or Maxxis size tires...so those are not an option.

I have Goodyear G114 on my trailer, so far no issues after @ 8000 miles.

FYI Jayco's Fifth wheels are now coming with a new Uniroyal 17.5" tire...so that is another option. Goodyear had production problems after covid...so I think that is why they switched.

IMO the best of the 3 are the Sailun , don't be fooled by the price . The last one I would buy is the Goodyear . I'd go Cooper before the Goodyear ,although Cooper is owned by Goodyear .

I have run two sets of Sailun , and will continue to do so .
