Truck Question - duallie or single?

I'm considering purchasing a 5th wheel to replace my Class A. It would be a full-timer rig, so it won't be hauled a lot. But I'd end up using the truck as a daily driver, or mostly so. Looking to get a 1-ton, as I'm looking for a more comfy 5er, which means bigger.

So, would a rear end with single wheels do OK, or is that a real no no, and should I go duallie?

That is more conjecture than fact. SRW with the rear anti-sway bar option that is standard on DRW handle as well-- and SRW handle better in ice/snow as we found out while I was working with the Forest Service.

For fivers under 16000 lbs I believe the advantages of a SRW out weigh any advantage a dually might have. Many fivers over 16000 lbs and all over 20,000 lbs require a dually.

SRW and DRW will PULL the same. DRW will HANDLE the load in a panic situation and generally MUCH better.

Since the SRW and DRW have the same engines as well as gearing options, why do you believe DRW pull better? Seems to me engines with near 1000lbs of torque are going to pull very well regardless. My 2012 SRW F350 with approx. 850lbs of torque pulls very well and has all the power I need for a 16kGVW trailer in the mountains.

I realize that SRW will carry a lot of weight. I know this because I’ve done it all my life. So I will not ridicule Anyone loving SRW. They are easier to get around in. However since I vet bought DRW, I realize it is a fantastic puller. However get what works for you.

What ^^^^^ he asked. The newer 350/3500 SRW RAM 2013+, GM 2016+ and Ford 2017+ are not your grandfathers model_T pickups. Chris

Thank you all for your willingness to share knowledge and experience. Based on the 5ers I'm looking at, I'll likely end up with a DRW rig.
