What is Dutchmen quality and warranty response like?

We happened across the Dutchmen Komfort series online and loved the unconventional modern look. We found a dealer that carried them online and went to their satellite dealer today, who has said in the past that that whatever we liked on their global site, he could have brought to his location for us to see.

When we told him how we really liked the looks of the Dutchmen Komfort series, he said that we would never want one, because they were really poor quality, cheaply made and that warranty claims were not handled well. Corporate had decided to stop carrying them after they sell the last of them, due to the poor quality. They still had a 2012 for sale that has not moved, because of Dutchmen's poor reputation due to their poor quality.

Is this true what he said? What has everyone's experience been? Especially in the Komfort line?

Dutchmen Grand Junction 2010, they would not stand behind the 2 year structural warranty, they are off our list.

I have a pre-Dutchman Komfort and, overall, I've been pretty happy with it. Zieman frame that is =heavy= and large tanks for its size. I know the current crop has Lippert frames and I've not looked at a Komfort since the change in lines. They simply have nothing I'm interested in, since all are well over my max size. Thor does advertise the Komfort line as an above-average line.

I can only speak for myself but we have a 2013 Komfort 3530FBH and it has been a great trailer. We have owned it for about ayear and a half and have pulled it close to 5000 miles without any troubles.

Just came on the forum to look for some input about Dutchmen Komfort Fivers and the search brought up this thread...what a coincidence. We purchased our Komfort 2920 FRK in June of 2012. It is actually a 2013 model. They are pretty to look at but we quickly found out that looks are only skin deep! Almost immediately we had a leak on the right hand side of the closet area. Water ran in and the entire cabinet on the right was soaked! Investigation found that the outside security light was filled completely with water! Further investigation found that the light had been installed unside down. There were holes in the bottom of the cover and water was easily getting in through those because the holes were facing upwards. Pretty easy fix!

We have been staying in the RV since last Wednesday (9/4/2013) and yesterday it rained all day long. We now call it "A River Runs Through It!" The entire closet has water RUNNING into it, shelves are warping and all our towels are soaked from sopping up the water! My husband called the dealer this morning and told him to come out to the campground and put some kind of temporary fix on it to get by the rest of the season when it will be taken in to the dealership for the winter and be torn apart for a permanent repair.

The front burner on the stove is unusable because when turned on fire comes out of the line in front of the burner!

The RV is very cheaply made, there is NO padding under the carpeting and the carpeting itself is very cheap! Several of the drawers in the kitchen don't work properly and we left the RV at the dealership last winter for a list of repairs to be made, some were fixed but several were either not fixed or the repair was poorly done or not done at all!

We are VERY disappointed in the Komfort by Dutchmen that we purchased and would not recommend that anyone purchase one these poorly made RV's. There just has to be better quality out there for the money.

THANK YOU!!! This is JUST the kind of info that I was looking for!! I guess the dealer was right about saying that they are cheaply made!! I was so tired of seeing the same, traditionally styled generic TTs and 5'ers where they all seemed to look alike, that I found the Komfort styling refreshing!! It is more more our style! I wish that there were others that turned out more modern styles! Do you know of any others?

If not, we have every intention to replace the furniture and the flooring and the cabinet pulls....make it more our style. The only kind of booths that I would even consider now, are the Komfort's style. It looks very functional and comfortable. Is it? We will not buy one after hearing your story (unless yours was a lemon) but from hearing what our local dealer said, it sounds like the norm for that line. Their prices seem rather high for the lack of quality!

Mookie:

You have a lot of threads running with a lot of questions.
Although there's no such thing as a dumb question - interest in responding may get "old".

Also, Unfortunately? not "everyone" has a Dutchmen or a Komfort - and can't help.

*YOU* can find LOTS of *answers* by using the search feature,
for the current 12 month period, as well as the archives for posts *over* 12 months old.

Example:
Search "Dutchmen" for the current 12 month period, you will find 77 posts - including the ones from this thread.

Search the archives with the same keyword of "Dutchmen" - and you will find over 1500 posts!

Then try keyword "Komfort".

LOTS of info at your fingertips!.:C

NO need to wait for replies!.:C

Of course not all posts with the word "Dutchmen" will relate directly to the info you seek - your job is to "filter out" the info you want.

One thing you have to remember about most 5th wheel manufacturers, They make low to high quality trailers in their lines. They say "starter to luxury lines"
I have a 2006 Dutchmen Grand Junction, So far no problems and lots of miles!

Thanks! I googled last night and found this: Looks like a lethal error:

"Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc. is recalling 171 model year 2011-2012 Rubicon travel trailers manufactured from Dec. 8, 2010 through July 15, 2011. These vehicles may have been manufactured with the exterior furnace vent not installed in the sidewall of the trailer. The furnace can run without the proper exhaust ventilation and release carbon monoxide to the interior of the unit. This could result in asphyxiation or carbon monoxide poisoning. The heat build-up from the exhaust can also result in a fire."

Input from other owners is beneficial but, Will you be relying on that same dealer to repair your unit or are you capable of doing your own repairs?
How much faith do you have in the dealer?
The selling dealer is an integral part of the equation. Valid or not sounds like the local dealer doesn't like Dutchman.

Best person to answer your question is to ask someone who works repairs or collision. Most I've talked to are not impressed with Dutchman construction or quality.
