Which lug nuts to use with new wheels?

Hi,

I moved to 16" aluminum wheels from the stock 15" steel wheels. Which lug nuts do I buy for the new wheels? Is it the acorn type or the mag wheels type where there is a shank that goes into the lug hole?

The axles are 5,000lb Dexters, and the hubs are 6 bolts.

Thanks.

Really depends on wheel stud hole design

Do the aluminum wheels require the tapered lug nut, flanged lug nut, ones with washers??

Check with wheel mfg./dealer as to correct lug nut design

Then properly torque them...recheck/re-torque at 10, 25, 50, 100 miles etc. until no movement on lug nuts. Aluminum takes several re-torques before set.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Lug nuts must match the wheel as well as the stud on the hub. Ask your wheel supplier what lugs fit the wheels, then get them in the right size for you hubs. The lugs will probably be 1/2 inch on 5000lb axle but make sure.

The place you bought the wheels from should provide you with the proper lug nut.

When I did the same thing on my Cherokee I bit the bullet and put on stainless steel lug nuts. Cost a little more but no rust.
