NC not RV Full time friendly

Unfortunately, I had purchased land in NC and have my "domicile" there. Well, I am glad in a way I purchased land. I am now in FL and someone broke into my truck window with a rock. Yes, I am covered, but my insurance company almost cancelled me because I did not have a "physical" address where my RV would be parked. I have my bank, license, tags etc. in NC. It seems the insurance industry will not insure you unless there is a physical address where you will be 6 month out of each year. Every state has a sales tax. Well, NC last year also incorporated a labor tax on top of the sales tax. So, if one gets their lawn mowed you have to pay this tax now. NC is also very hard as to where you can put your RV other than a CG for extended stay.

The good thing is, we did purchase land in an agriculture zoned area over an acre, where we think at this point we can put a pad and stay 6 months (only) at a time.

Not sure about the lawn mowing, but the tax as I know it is on sales an labor. First I had insurance on my truck and 5er with Progressive and never had a problem with them. Then last year their rates went up because we had an extra car and I took that off the policy. So we changed to National General which was substancially less on the truck, but more on the RV. Both companies when we signed up through our agent knew we were full-timers. So not the RV is through Progressive and the truck with National General. I will be changing back, most likely to Progressive or another company if and when this break-in claim on my truck is satisfied. As far as the land we have. We called zoning and as long it is 1 or more acres and zoned as our is we can put an RV on it for 6 months only....6 months off. We will be installing a pad, electric and sewer. There is a permit required for elect., water and septic.
Sorry, I did not get back sooner, but where we are volunteering internet is very sketchy.

You do need a different insurance company, but the reason I'm posting is about the emphasized sentence above (my emphasis.)

North Carolina does not tax lawn mowing services. See NC General Statutes - Chapter 105 - Article 5 - Section 105-164.134 - paragraph (61a) - subparagraph h.

The sales and use tax law in NC (and most states) is so complicated, it is hard to know what is taxed and what is not.

X2 on wrong Insurance.. Your current insurance company wonโ€™t insure you unless your a part timer , or claim to be. However There are companies that provide full time insurance. As in no other home. Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s avail in NC also. Without it you probably donโ€™t have the personal liability Insurance homeowner insurance provides.
Thereโ€™s a reason FL TX and SD. Are the states most used for Full timers.?? seems like more and more states are Tax H.. . Btw every state doesnโ€™t have a sales tax Oregon has 0 but they have a high Income tax so arenโ€™t full time friendly either.

You can blame the current aversion on the 'tiny house' craze. Many communities are enacting zoning and ordinances specifically barring tiny houses and communities look at a full time RV'er as a tiny house sweller. We are primarily agriculture and just enacted a couple ordinances toward the siting on a tiny house and that includes any RV considered non-transient.

Putting any RV on any site for a protracted amount of time and you have some inherent issues like waste disposal (a big one), water and utilities.

Can you install a septic system on your acre and be within the regulations concerning it on your acre and drill a water well and have them the proper distance from each other? Things to think real hard about when buying a plot to park on for any length of time.

You have the wrong insurance company. There are full timers insurance companies. They may not be the cheapest but they are geared towards your lifestyle.
