It's snake oil in a home septic or any where else. Maybe put some in a glass and make some sea monkeys. Funny how people are so easily fooled into buying stuff that's not needed.

I would be afraid of its reaction to the plastic in the holding tank and would absolutely not use it. I

Undoubtedly sitting for a week with water caused things to break down. WATER, WATER, WATER, that's all you need.

We're into our 8th year of fulltiming. All we ever do is use water and don't dump until it is 2/3 full or more. People don't use enough water, that is the trick.

But if it makes you feel good to spend money on nothing, go for it. Me, I'd rather spend the money on some wine and help out the black tank that way!

sitting for a week giving solids time to break up probably did as much good as the ridx.

Rid-X won't hurt anything but your wallet. BUT, it won't help anything either. It's beneficial for use in septic tanks, not RV holding tanks.

If you don't mind paying for it and it makes you feel better, use it.

I use a packet of regular baking yeast once a month in my septic at home. I guess a small amount will do the same in the black tank.

I will give it a try. Our RV is hooked to a septic tank that we share with another seasonal. They use very little water in their black tank. I was hoping that the rid-x would help with cleaning my tank, plus work on all the "solids" my neibghors send out. As for price, it's $6.97 for a box that treats 1500 gallons. That's $.21 a tank.

Been a topic of conversation since the beginning of self-contained RVs. It is not a good idea, but a harmless waste of money. The fact is that you have a HOLDING tank under the RV toilet, not a septic system. The goal is to keep the contents of the tank well liquefied to allow for easy and complete discharge, and to control the odors, that's it. If you allow the contents of the tank to remain long enough, they will begin the process of anaerobic decomposition, just as they would in a simple septic system. That said, this process is not necessary, or intended when using the holding tank.
Remember, these type of products are marketed by companies that need you to believe that they are necessary. They are not necessary in a properly functioning residential septic system, and they are just a waste of money in a camper.

Why would to use it? It is a plastic tank and not a septic system.
Once a month, preform a 15 to 30 minute flush.
Use a cheap water softener, pour about a 2 to 6 ozs.
Once every 2 years have it power flushed.
Save yourself the cost of chemicals
