We can now renew our drivers license online once. Saves a trip back to SD

Yes you can if you met these requirements:

Online Driver’s License Renewal

To renew your South Dakota driver license online, you must have:

A federally compliant SD driver’s license.
Had a vision test within the last 6 months.
Proof of your South Dakota residency on file with the SD DMV (no older than 1 year).
