1997 Ford 460 ignition

since last week, ive been experiencing engine 'run while driving' problems

it starts great, then will NOT accelerate properly, or hesitates, bogs etc..

it started right after i filled the gas at my regular stop

after (2) days of this i added a can of sea foam

and things started improving over the course of several days

this morning it was 'slow' again, i went to gas up and filled up with premium , NOW its back firing and acting even worse

the questions i have are multiple

1997 bounder F53 chassis, 460 CuIn
where are the fuel filters, i can't find them

where are the ICM and EEC MODULES located i can't find them either
all the chassis manual says i have them

i'm thinking filters first and electronic modules 'next'
might be a good idea to get them and have them on hand
even IF not needed at this time

Onan generator is running fine, so i really don't think its a continuing fuel issue, although there could be contamination in the bottom of the tank, below the genny pickup, which has clogged the drive engine fuel filters
i was leaning heavy toward fuel issue until the backfiring started

part numbers and locations needed

At 5-8 mpg a lot of fuel gets ran through that filter in a very short time. Start with that first.

Inline pumps make me nervous, especially when they have hose barb fittings. This 50+ psi GASOLINE we are talking about !

MrWizard, you won't have a wiring problem if you elect to change the fuel pump. 96 and up have the new turbine pump with new wiring harness. It's just us 95 and older F53 that have to do some extra wiring.

will look for the fuel pressure test point (schrader valve)

and check the exhaust for excess heat on the mufflers

adding the external pump is an option i am considering

I have seen several Fords in the past have a problem with the muffler collapsing internally.
Just a long shot but a lot of parts got changed before finding the problem.
IIRC finding the exhaust pipe at the muffler would get really hot.

Schrader valve is on the right side fuel rail, just in front of the throttle body. You may have to push some stuff aside to see it.

The post above this one has the old post I was referring to. It showed how to add a NAPA E fuel pump and have it powered by the Ford Collision relay.

There was a thread here years ago from a guy that added a elec fuel pump near the filter leaving the OEM in place. The mod (Bounder something?) had it..
