2005 Monaco Dynasty vs 2007 Fleetwood Discovery

I'm looking at 2 motorhomes that I like. One is a very nice 43 foot 2005 Monaco Dynasty with 85000 miles for $105000 and the other is a 2007 Fleetwood Discovery 39V with 34000 miles for $83000. Both are in excellent condition, but I'm reluctant to spend $100000 on the Monaco with that many miles.
Any advice?

Monaco is the better buy - JMHO,

Look inside - open the drawers - look at the walls, Generator size and sound - If 100K is a deal killer offer $99.

Absolutely!

I can't think of even one advantage the Fleetwood has over the Monaco, other than asking price.

The Dynasty is a much higher end, better constructed vehicle, hands down.

Wrist pins issues was for 06 engines.
Even if it was a 06-07 coach, at 85K miles I'd not worry about that recall.

I would check the Dynasty engine serial number to see if it falls within the wrist pin issue.

I would agree with Busskipper. What you didn't say, was haveyou personally looked at them? If so then I would think you would have seen a difference in quality, as I feel the Dynasty is a much higher end coach both in build and materials. Are the engines the same, the Dynasty will likely have an ISL Cummins, so compare engine models as a Cummins ISB or ISC will not be as good as the ISL. ISL has more hp and torque. As a retired truck driver with over 3 million miles, that engine should be good for 500,000 miles. Lots of trucks are doing that + and work much harder than any MH will. Price is an ask price, however to me seems in the ball park, just needs to deal on it. Dynasty's were a high end coach and offered many levels. My opinion would be to deal on the Monaco.

You guys are funny! First I hear, "drive drive drive that diesel because it ruins it to sit", but here is one with 7K miles a year and its all worn out and deserves a huge cut in price 🙂

I also hear that a high mileage diesel with documented regular service is worth far more than low mileage undocumented diesel.

What would it be worth if it had 9,000 miles on the odometer?

I think in the end, people just get skittish about anything over 40,000 miles on a MH, regardless of what the forum says 🙂

You just have to make your own judgement on care and condition and fair market.

As far as brand, Monaco. However it is too expensive for that many miles. Far too expensive.

If $100,000 is in your budget, you could get a newer Dynasty, probably an 2008 like we had. It will have the updated TV's, Aqua Hot, tile living space, Washer and Dryer, etc. Look for a newer Dynasty if that is your price range.

At 13 years of ownership this is not something I'm worried about as they are foamed in place and Monaco did not use cheap hoses. Instead of trying to replace you would just run a new hose in a new location... impossible to get the old one out.

The woodwork is very solid and other than one swing out kitchen counter, I've never had any problems... screws pulled out when one of the two latches did not latch which was operator error.

With a true Jake brake, I will never wear my brakes out and the solid front axle is probably good for 1,000,000 miles as are the drive and tag axles.

The Diesel engine is but one thing that milage affects. the rest of the chassis is affected too. front suspension, wheels and brakes, transmissions, air ride components.
My concern would be the condition of the coach its self. Monaco was a top of the line builder. but wear and tear affects them all.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm more concerned with the potential for trouble ahead with the house portion. I'm also wondering about the longevity of all the long hoses for power steering, heater hoses, a/c hoses, etc.

My 04 Dynasty with 80K miles is only worth $70K and I plan on using it for another 13 years. A 05 with 80K miles and with fairly new tires is a $80K MH. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer, well handling DP than a Dynasty... yes I'm biased.

Do a search for RR10S as once you own a tag axle coach you will never settle for a non tag coach. 85K miles would not bother me as long as there are maintenance records as 5-7K miles/year is normal and better than one that sat for long periods.
