2010 Jeep liberty Toad option

I am at it again. Many of you chimed in about my search for a 4 down toad a while ago and that was very helpful. However we still have not found "the vehicle" Looked at many many Wranglers. At the end of it all while we liked the wrangler we just thought they were way overpriced for what you get and it didn't seem ideal as a daily driver. Add the inability for DW's mom to get in it for appointments and such and it just wasn't practical. Don't get me wrong, we loved it. Still milling about the CRV which is a respectable toad but frankly we aren't in love with it. Fits the bill for our range, usability, makes for a good trade from our Civic but we just don't love the CRV. While looking around DW stumbled on a 2010 Jeep Liberty Sport 4wd with 60k miles for $15k. I know very little about this vehicle. I know it can be towed 4 down. It's a 6cyl and seems to be well taken care of. I know it's a bit piggish at a about 4k lbs, over the CRV which is closer to 3k. NADA has clean retail at $16k. Planning to go look at tomorrow. Any thoughts?

This is great information folks and thank you so much. I think this vehicle is a winner and I went to look at it. Unfortunately DW's mother has taken a turn for the worse and has been in the hospital on a ventilator for the past week. Prognosis is not good. DW has been pretty much living at the hospital to be by her side so this has taken a back seat (pardon the pun) and we have not had a chance to both go over and test it out. Frankly it's not a priority given everything else that's going on. Hopefully it will still be there when this blows over but life has thrown us other priorities at the moment. Thanks again for all the feedback, exactly what I needed. Might not be able to actually use the information at this time but valuable none-the-less. They say life happens when you are making plans.

We have a 2006 Liberty with 145,000 miles. We tow it and drive it all the time at home. It's a great tow vehicle. We love it so much, we put in new leather a few years ago, and brand new complete AC system this summer. I will drive it till the wheels fall off. It has been an inexpensive vehicle to own and very reliable. In my humble opinion, you cannot beat it for a tow vehicle.

Keep in mind that the Honda CR-V changed in 2007 and again in 2012, improving at each model change. The newer CR-V's have more sound insulation for a quieter ride.

The Jeep Liberty has now been discontinued with the new Cherokee being introduced which looks nice.

I have experience with both vehicles. I have a 2006 CRV that I use as a toad. It is easy to get in and out of, fairly quiet on the inside, gets 22mpg and the seats are pretty comfortable. The only thing is the battery will go dead due to the key having to be turned to accessory after a day or two. I have to start it after about 300 miles and run it through the gears. Not a big deal, just takes a minute while you get out to stretch your legs. The jeep you can tow as long as you want without touching it. My dad has a 2001 jeep liberty and he isn't in love with it either. It is uncomfortable, somewhat hard to get in and out of and gets 13mpg on a good day. He had to replace two of the ignition coils which were causing a stumbling someone else described on this thread. I have driven the jeep for up to about 6 hours at a time, and my back was sore afterwords. I didn't like it at all, but that's just me. I'm 6'3 and 230#. I love the CRV and wouldn't trade it.

We own a 2011 Liberty and a 2007 CRV. Both my wife and I prefer the comfort and ride of the Liberty over the CRV. Take a ride on the hwy with the CRV if continue to consider going that route since there's a lot of road noise (I drive the Liberty). I love the Liberty but not the 5mpg lower gas mileage vs the CRV.

Just want to chime in here. When we were toad shopping, price was an issue. I had a 2012 Nissan Altima that I was loathe to get rid of, but one of the cars had to go, and the Altima was it.

We had done a lot of research, and were leaning towards the Liberty, but Price was a concern. Then the local Jeep ran an ad for the Patriot. And it was 5-speed manual. Never even considered a 5-speed. After research - PERFECT! Perfect price too.

I can tow it 4-down, put the stick in neutral, and release the break. While I am not sure of the exact weight, the Patriot is lighter than the Liberty by a few thousand Lbs. That was a consideration as well.

DW needs an auto trans. We might get back over this weekend, but her mom took a turn for the worse and I found out yesterday I have pneumonia. Maybe by the weekend things will look better. They dropped the price yesterday to $14.4k. I think it will go fast. My planets aren't aligning. They seldom do.
