I have 2 Carrier AC units (13.5) which are 8 years old. The rear ac works great with no issues what so ever. The front ac has been problematic for a while. Last year with the help from this forum I had the capacitor changed and it worked fine for a while. Your probably thinking why don't you just replace it and here's why.

Ac starts right up in the morning and will run for 4 to 5 hours straight then it turns off on its own . I've tried turning back on but it will not go on. BTW I always shut everything down (12v & generator) but no go. I find that by waiting about 15 minutes it will go on and run till I turn it off most of the time. I would like to know what else to check or if you it's even worth the hassle and just buy a new one.

The sad part about all this is that Carrier no longer makes AC units and he will be forced to go with a converted Coleman/Mach or Dometic unit...

If you ever have to replace one of your AC's, I suggest getting a 15.0 for the front and leaving a 13.5 in the back. On my coach,the factory installed two 13.5's which could not keep up with the summer heat in Nevada or Arizona.

Lucky for me, my back 13.5 went out while under warranty. I had the dealer put the front 13.5 in the back, and I paid the difference to have a 15 put in front. The difference was like night and day, and we could keep the coach comfortable during those extremely hot days.

Capacitors are not your problem at all.
I'd suspect the compressor windings are being shorted by heat causing the shutdown and subsequent shorter times between shutdowns.
Replace the unit.

You have a good point and I will look into changing the capacitor btw I read that these (Carrier AV) have 2 capacitors so not sure which capacitor was replaced.

It sounds like the capacitor is heating up and causing the unit to shut down. The capacitor is an electronic component and just because it worked for awhile, does not mean that the replacement will last forever. In all probability the replacement was a made in China component with a less than spectacular quality control system. Replacing the capacitor again is an inexpensive option to find out if you have a more serious problem.
