Allied Insurance

Last Friday a jeep thought he could pull out 30 yards in front of me to make a left hand turn. I T-BONED his jeep, totaling it and destroying the front end of my coach.
I called my insurance company, Allied, and they have done an outstanding job so far in taking care of everything.
They towed my coach to a "preferred" repair center, and are handling the paperwork.
Apalachee RV Center is working on getting an estimate of cost and repair time.
I am very apprehensive about how long repairs will take and what will happen to my insurance rates even though the accident was not my fault.
I will keep you all informed of any updates

Having worked in insurance in MI for 39 years from the description given, the OP would NOT be the at-fault party. The other vehicle pulled out in front of him. Additional proof would be that he t-boned him - hit him in the side. If the other party had completed their turn and was hit in the rear end, then it would be questionable. Just my opinion from seeing police reports and taking accident reports and paying claims for 39 years in Michigan.

IOW, hit him in the side. Was it avoidable or not we don't know. What we do know is what the OP stated and why I stated assured clear distance (because we don't know the speed, the conditions, if there was another lane available, basically none of the parameters leading up to the crash.

In this state, chances are you'd be cited for assured clear distance or failure to control (depending on mitigating circumstances of course)

So your making a comment or statement without any pertinent information.
Confused to say the least.

Sounds like you may have been at fault, you hit him. He didn't hit you. You are suppose to be able to control your vehicle at all times.
Just my opinion.

Our biggest problem operating our rigs is the distance mentality of the 4wheelers in traffic. Their favorite move is screaming past us to jam on the brakes and turn/exit. It takes defensive driving squared on our part.

Good luck with your repairs OP.

I have Allied on my two cars for over 25 years and have been very pleased with them. But, I have Progressive on the motorhome (less expensive than Allied) have been pleased with them also. Never lost a discount with either company due to a not at fault accident.

Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

At fault or not does not matter any longer in regards to rates due to the discount scam all these companies now use. Even when not at fault, or if your insurance provides "accident forgiveness", you will still lose a couple of "discounts". Losing those discounts will most likely increase your cost, not the insurance rate per se, substantially. The insurance companies pull discounts such as "safe driver" and "accident free" at the drop of a hat. Fault doesn't matter as you were in an accident or by definition are not a safe driver by being in one. It's a racket. Read the fine print.

This makes no sense. The OP was driving on the road and a jeep pulled out in front of him, so he t boned him. Why in the world would the OP be cited?

Assured clear distance is a vague concept in law, where it is even addressed in law, and mostly applies to what is in front of you in your lane, and not what enters your lane.

I think you have misunderstood the concept.

Hopefully the police were called and a citation was issued to the driver of the jeep. ( and they have insurance) If not, it can turn into a he said, she said thing. Although driver pulling out in front of you is a big hill to climb to blame it on you I would think.

Something you might consider the RV place they towed it to is not preferred because they do the best work ( which they may well, I would have no knowledge)

They are preferred because they have a contract with your INS company and keep the rates down. They may well do that by using after market and used parts.

If you are not at fault, you have the right at least in WA to insist they use new parts. If on the other hand you are determined to be at fault, even partially, then they can use after market stuff. As you insurance is paying the bill and it will be in the contract, they can do that.

At least in WA if you are not at fault it will not raise you rates. I believe this info is pretty much correct, although I acknowledge I could be off base

Hopefully one, there was no PI and two if you didn't get cited for assured clear distance, consider yourself fortunate. Here in this state, you'd be ticketed for assured clear distance or failure to control. Jeeps and their occupants don't fare well in crashes as a rule.

Not sure what your even talking about

What is the "assured clear distance" to prevent someone from pulling out too closely in front of you?
