Buying Newmar or Monaco

At this time I am actively looking for a used Diesel Monaco or Newmar. I would like to pay 100k or less and looking for something between 2000 and 2007 models. This is my first class A so do not have a lot of knowledge about the models such as which is the more expensive a Camelot or Windsor and the same with Newmar Essex, Dutch Star, or Mountain air. Can someone give me the models in the order of price? Thanks for the reply.

Why limit yourself to two brands? Lots of good coaches made by other manufacturers...check 'em out.

Since you previously test drove a 40 ft DP I'd list Monaco as Sig, EXE, Dynasty, Camelot, Diplomat for 40' or bigger. I've always felt the Dynasty gave the most bang for the buck and that's the reason I've owned one for 11 years and plan on keeping it for another 11+. A EXE will give you 500 HP (instead of 400) and a few more items standard. Sig is top of the line with mirrors on the ceiling and more glitz. Dynasty and up all use the RR10S Roadmaster chassis... very solid and great handling. Wind and trucks are not a problem.

For $100K you can find a 05 Dynasty with 50K miles with AquaHot and Girrard awning plus 4 slides. Only one currently on Ebay is a late 02 (have never seen a 02 with the large LR driverside slide...34") Other than no AquaHot and missing the two Euro chairs it looks nice plus it has three receivers on the back for a motorcycle lift. The TVs would need replacing as they are not digital but LED TVs are not expensive. I'd think a cash offer of $75K would buy it.

You will not have a problem oversteering once you get a couple hundred miles practicing giving smaller inputs longer to take affect with the Monaco tag axle coaches.

*Yes I'm partial to the handling of the big Monaco's with a tag axle. Last summer partly because of a interstate being closed from flooding I did 1900 miles in 48 hours having started at 6PM... N. GA to the Tetons 3PM.

During these years Monaco had some problems with some models with respect to rear railing arms that was the subject of a recall


RED FLAG WARNING The recall in 2005 included 2002, 2003 and some 2004 Monaco Knight, Cayman, HR Ambassador, Neptune, Safari Cheetah, Sahara and Zanzibar. At the time NHSTA didn't think they could do anything because Monaco is out of business. Monaco wasn't much help.

So if I were you I would go Newmar all the way.
