What is the accurate interpretation of this licensing classification for a Class A RV under 26,001 lbs.

This is the Nevada code. Clear as Muddddd! Anyone speak legalese?

What class license is required if the Motorhome is under 26,001?

NAC?483.110??Driversโ€™ licenses: Classifications; miscellaneous restrictions and endorsements. (NRS 481.051, 482A.100, 483.220, 483.235, 483.908)

1.??The holder of a Class A noncommercial driverโ€™s license may drive:
(a)?Any combination of vehicles with:
(1)?A gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, which includes one or more towed vehicles with:
(I)?A gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds; or
(II)?A gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 pounds; or
(2)?A gross combination weight of 26,001 pounds or more, which includes one or more towed vehicles with:

(II)?A gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 pounds;

(b)?Any combination of vehicles not exceeding 70 feet in length with a gross combination weight rating of 26,000 pounds or less so long as the gross combination weight rating of the towed vehicles does not exceed the gross vehicle weight rating of the towing vehicle; or

(c)?A vehicle falling within Class B or Class C, but may not drive a motorcycle or an autonomous vehicle in autonomous mode unless the holder obtains an appropriate endorsement.

2.??The holder of a Class B noncommercial driverโ€™s license may drive any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross vehicle weight, whichever is greater, of 26,001 pounds or more, or any such vehicle which is towing another vehicle which does not have a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds, and all vehicles falling within Class C, but may not drive a motorcycle or an autonomous vehicle in autonomous mode unless the holder obtains an appropriate endorsement.

3.??The holder of a Class C noncommercial driverโ€™s license may drive any single vehicle, or combination of vehicles, that does not meet the definition of a vehicle for which a Class A or Class B driverโ€™s license is required, including, without limitation, a moped or a low-speed vehicle, but the holder of a Class C driverโ€™s license may not:

(a)?Drive a motorcycle, unless the holder obtains an appropriate endorsement;
(b)?Tow a vehicle or a combination of vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, as appropriate, of more than 10,000 pounds, unless the holder obtains a J endorsement;
(c)?Drive a combination of vehicles exceeding 70 feet in length; or

Many western states have same requirement. Basically need class A towing trailer over 10k and class B for MH at 26,001. ( Some states require an air brake test) They give a non med licence for RVers. What is the confusion?

I have a class A and do my best to keep up on the current rules. Your class C is fine under 26k. If towing over 10k you will need a different class or endorsement. Nv dropped the Class A or Rv endorsement for towing RV doubles.

The Class C license description seems to be pretty clear to me. A Class A motorhome weighing less than 26,000 lbs or less only requires a basic Class C license unless you're towing a vehicle or combination ("triple towing") that weighs more than 10,000 lbs (unlikely with a gasser).

Thanks for the input. I researched the code before moving to NV from TX. I believe under 26k is a regular class c license.

I took a look at the above referenced website, which resulted in reviewing the code again.

Based on the Nac I think their website is inaccurate and confusing.

Just interested and curious about others interpretations. I printed out the code to carry in the RV, just in case a reasonable LEO stops and questions, etc. At least I can show them the code and they can go HUH, tooo!

Being a retired Fed LEO for about 15 years+, I am just senile enough to say HUH!. Always try to be Legal.

I believe you are correct.
Safe travels to you also, Have fun Rv'n:C

footnote: When we got the Allegro, I wanted to ensure we were under the special licensing requirements for TX. That's one reason we threw into the hat for not going Diesel, and I am diesel illiterate. But mainly too lazy to go through special licensing. Whole other discussion.

I live in NV and have a class "C" license which is all that's required for a coach 26,000 lbs. or less.

Would a different class license be required for a coach weighing 1 lb over the 26,000, kinda like splitting hairs. I would suspect if common sense was applied by the DMV folks a class "C" license requirement would prevail.

If in doubt, a call to NV DMV might be in order to clarify whether 1 lb over the 26,000 would mandate a different class license.

Best of luck & Safe travels.........:)

That's not the NAC, that's an interpretation from a DMV Clerk/Webster.

The interpretation appears to be different from what the code indicates.

Can you find the website information in the Code?

The web information is what caused me to research the code.

The web looks like a case of HUH!

Class C
Cars, vans, pickups, mopeds, and other vehicles (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less

Nevada Handbook
Non-Commercial Vehicle Classifications
Class A May drive any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating
(GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, provided the vehicle being towed has a
gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 10,000 pounds; or
Any combination of vehicles not exceeding 70 feet in length with a gross
combination weight rating of 26,000 pounds or less so long as the gross
combination weight rating of the towed vehicles does not exceed the gross
vehicle weight rating of the towing vehicle.

Class B May drive any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more
pounds, or any vehicle which is towing another vehicle which does not have a
gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds.

Class C May drive any single vehicle or combination of vehicles, that does not meet the
definition of a vehicle for which a Class A or B driverโ€™s license is required. May
tow a combination of vehicles not to exceed 70 feet in length and not to exceed a
combined weight rating or a combined weight of more than 10,000 pounds
without any additional testing or endorsements.
Interpretation: if the vehicle does not weigh 26001 or more a class C is legal? JMHO. But Officer, that's how I read the code: HUH?

Texas was 26,001 before special licensing. There is a CFR that also discusses the 26,001. That's federal I think for commercial cdl and did not research that regulation. Looks like TX/NV used the 26,001 weight from the CFR. Maybe that was and is the intent.
