I put away a little cash for 40 years for the day I could buy a new RV when I got the 2015 coachmen home all the ford material stated it was a 2014, all of the sales contracts stated it was a 2015 did I get had or is this a common practice for the running gear to be a different model year than the RV itself. the unit had 1500 miles on it I did have the VIN checked and it is a 2014 Ford cutaway van with a V10 engine and so on. the tag and title will be mailed to me in 30 days or less. do I have a problem with the purchase? Thanks in advance for your input

Our old 1984 Mirage was built on a 1983 Toyota chassis. It worked out well but I never did feel right inside over it. When we special ordered our new rig in 2007, I made sure the years matched.

Common in the RV world. I've never heard of a problem with insurance or registration issues. My 1988 Jamboree is on a 1987 Ford Chassis. Registration/pink slip and insurance all refer to it as a 1988 Jamboree, not a 1987 Ford. In fact, nowhere on any of the paperwork is the word Ford even mentioned. However, when I go to buy drivetrain parts at the auto parts store, I have to remember that it is a 1987, since that was the last year with a carb; in 1988 Ford went to fuel injection.

As one other situation, our new 2005 Class C was a built on a Ford 2005 chassis, so it appears that all was in order. However, Ford actually constructed our particular chassis in the fall of 2004 ... obviously they built it ahead of calendar 2005, but per their advertised "2005 chassis design and features". Of course all vehicles of any given year that one buys early in that year are likely to actually have been put together in the previous year.

IMHO, the important thing with the OP's situation is ... if their chassis was truely of the previous year's design ... then what, if any, improvement changes did Ford make from the 2014 chassis to the 2015 chassis? If none of any significance, then I wouldn't be concerned if the RV is called the year model in which the coach portion meets the advertised design and features of that year for that coach, even though the Ford chassis only meets Ford's advertised chassis design and features of the previous year.

Bought a 2015 Forester in October last year. The chassis is a 2014.

I also have a Coachmen class C that I bought as a 2009 and found out it is a 2008 chassis. E-450 diesel. I love it and have had no problems.

I don't think you were "had". It's not uncommon for the chassis and the RV to be different years because of the lead time necessary to order chassis, and the build time required for the coach.

I bought a motorhome, 94 on a 93 chassis or somesuch. my issue was with my insurance agent, wanting to cover it like a 93. I suggested he change that Or I would find an insurance company that would. he wrote the policy as a 94 motorhome on a 93 chassis.

I bought a 1995 Glaval Halfback conversion van. I stopped by the factory for some reason later and the fella that looked at it said I had a 96 conversion, based on switches, overhead console, etc.

Because the next year's RV models come out so early in the current year they must have to start with chassis that were built in the previous year. My new 2014 RV had 2013 built chassis.

Evidently not too uncommon. We've got a 2008 Coachmen on a 2007 Chevy Chassis. It made financing a bit of a struggle and vehicle registration a bit more difficult. Other than that, no big whoop to me.
