I just bought a winegard traveler satelite dish. It will be mounted on the motorhome roof. I want to get an idea of what others who have this type dish as to what type receiver they use. I have been told to use the hr24 or also the genie that i use at home.
What is every one else using???

you can't get local channels if you are more than 250 miles from home address, unless you have a separate RV package and purchase local channels. DirecTV doesn't like to change the service address. Depends on who you get on the phone.
Are there trees or buildings in the way of the dish?

When we were at Mackinaw, Mi last June I tried to use our Direct TV system. Changed the zip code and got nothing called tech service was on phone for a good 1 1/2 hour got nothing.

It was perplexing! The Direct TV worked fine at Deerfield, Mi but nothing at Mackinaw.

Any suggestions? We are leaving for a western multi week or month tour in June would like to get TV and local stations on sat receiver?

What dish? How are you connected?
Dead coax, dead B band converter, trees blocking signal all can contribute to loss of signal.
BTW, unless you change your home address at every move you are not going to get networks.

I don't know what changing the zip code has to do with it.

You are hooked to a properly aimed dish, right?

If it the SWM version, there is no reason not to take your Genie from home.

We are using the Genie receiver in the main room with the mini in the bedroom, working great.

Our old H20 has worked well for years and with the adapter receives all of the HD channels.
Just take your receiver out to the motor home and see how it works. You MAY have to go through the set up procedure but I would try it first to see if you can use the same settings that you have for your home dish.
