My awning motor died just as yours did. The motor has to be removed from the left end but the strut for my patio awning was in the way. So I had to drill out the two pop rivets then slide the awning forward enough to remove the motor. The original motor drive is plastic but the new motor I replaced it with has two metal drive sprockets so a much better design. The wiring for mine went down the A pillar so that had to come off as well. Not a pleasant job but doable as a DIY project. Good luck with yours.
