Down and out in Spartanberg SC

We were traveling home and decided to fuel up while it was cheaper in SC.
We pulled up to the pump and refueled. When I turned the key it didn't want to start again. It finally did start, but was idling very rough. I realized that I had left the jake brake on. After turning it off, it still idles very rough and check engine light is on. We drove it 3 miles to the next truck stop, but barely made it there.
Does anyone have an idea or know of a reputable caterpillar mechanic in this area? We are close to Greenville/Spartanberg SC. in Gaffney actually.

Yeah....after I thought about it, too quick for the fuel filters to fail and they typically are more of an issue under load. wolfe10's idea is also something you might be able to check yourself prior to spending money at a shop.

Two "suspects".

Exhaust brake stuck closed-- access under the bed and check it.

Fuel filter clogged. But, likely would NOT go from perfect to rough idle at once. Check exhaust brake!

If you haven't changed your fuel filers in the last year or 10K miles, I would replace the filters before spending a lot of many. They need it to be replaced even if they aren't the issue.

Did you ask the folks at the truckstop?

Frieghtliner is located in Gaffney. They have a factory service location there. Their service number I believe is 24x7. I dont remember is they work on RVs on weekends.
What chassis do you have? Hopefully Freightliner right now ๐Ÿ™‚
