How does your brand label the sides of the coach?

I was talking to a service technician today who was complaining about the way the different manufacturers labeled the sides of the coach. For example, Newmar uses DS = Door Side and ODS = Off Door Side. But others use DS = Driver Side versus PS = Passenger side. Still others use Curbside, and RS = Road Side but sometimes RS = Right Side and LS = Left Side.

To make matters worse, he could not get his service managers to agree on nomenclature so he would often get descriptions of service issues that referenced DS or RS and it meant nothing to him because there was no standard. At least with boats, they use port and starboard.

So how does your manufacturer label this?

BTW, this isn't only an issue with the sides. On my Newmar Coach, they use 5 different terms to describe the two types of shades.

In the cockpit, a "shade" is the blackout shade and the see through ones are just a "visor."
On the passenger side, the "shade" is the see through shade.
In the living room and coach area, there are "Day Shades" and "Night Shades"
And in the console above the driver's seat, the blackout shades are referred to as "Privacy Shades."

I can see how different manufacturers might use different terms, but having one manufacturer use several terms for the same thing, seems senseless to me.

Of course I've gotten used to it and know what each button does, but I can see how confusing this must be for service people who have to work on lots of different coaches.

I think it means if you arrive between 7 and 8 you can park for two hours only. If you arrive any other time, you can park as long as you'd like. ๐Ÿ˜‰

On the dash read-out... if I have not closed one of the bay doors, it will say 'baggage door open'.

The MAIN point is---The SERVICE WRITER is the one that has to type up the repair order and HE is the one that talks to the customer and goes over the complaints and "Hopefully" actually goes out to the RV and goes over it with the customer. Regardless of what the customer says, that Service Writer is the one that is responsible for relaying the correct info to the Technician. Also, another pet peeve, I wish the customer would REALLY read the RO he is signing. That way, IF there is a mistake, the customer can catch and state that the RO does not state what and where his complaint is. It seems a lot of older RVers are dead or gone. I can remember years ago, it did not matter what brand Motorhome you had, a LOT of people said you had a Winnebago. That was the layman's term for any motorhome they saw. I rarely hear that term anymore when people are talking about motorhomes. Doug

It's binary, zero and one. Zero is off, and one is on. These markings have been pretty common and standardized for a good many years.

Thanks, now I know where it comes from. I wish they had used intuit, and simply put a + for ON.

Travel Supreme uses the same nomenclature as Newmar, DS = Door Side and ODS = Off Door Side. This may be because from what I have read, TS was started by former Newmar employees.

Sorry, but if the so called tech was complaining about that, I suspect he does not know his job that well. ALL the terms you listed make sense to anybody that has been in the RV or Automotive business. RS and LS are ALWAYS stated when SITTING in the drivers seat. That said, a lot of RV owners have no clue when they bring them in for service and it is up to the Service advisor to clarify which side the customer is indicating. Doug
MY pet peeve and is on this forum a lot. " I try RAISING the Jacks and the RV will not level". Raising the jacks means retracting them. Extending or LOWERING the jacks will get your RV level.
Not really. All the tech sees is "DS slide malfunctioning." What does that mean? Door side or Driver's side? Who knows?

Simple, DRIVERS side. NOBODY ever uses DS as Door Side IN the Service business. This type complaint would be up to the Service writer to get straight. Granted, for parts, OEM's will use DS(door side) and ODS(off door side). Doug
