How much does a new engine cost?

In class a couple of weeks ago, the instructor told us that an ISX 15 engine alone costs about $75,000. He said the transmission is about $25,000. Told us the K3 chassis retails for $250,000. I couldn't believe how expensive it is so I tried looking it up on the interwebs. Couldn't find any clue.

Do any of you know how much new Cummins engines cost? ISX15, ISX12, ISL9, ISB6.7, ISV5.0 -- doesn't matter, I'm just curious. I have no other point to make with this post. I love my engine and everything runs fine. No complaints at all. I'm simply curious how much these things cost OEM.

Yep, I see that Spartan is selling a brand new Entegra chassis for $22,000.

That includes the new ISB engine, plus transmission, emissions, air cleaner, radiator, frame, brakes, tires, electrical, suspension and steering. All for $22,000. The ISB engine can't cost them more than $11,000.

As horsepower increases for the same engine block, the price of the engine rises drastically. The additional cost is to cover potential warranty claims. It is best to stay low to mid range horsepower for an engine block if your concern is longevity.

Now I wonder about what the "instructor" was teaching!!

Same new ISX15 that cbone found for $29K plus a core of $4500. A reman Allison 4000 is less than $5500.

Is this the same instructor that said fuel was injected while using the Jake...:S

It would be hard to sell a OTR tractor for less than $150k if the engine and tranny cost $100K.
I agree. It doesn't add up. I just looked up prices on the 550HP new models from Kenworth and they are only $167k and have 18 speed transmissions. There is no way he is correct.

A quick google search revealed THIS.
Interesting. $29k for a 500 hp version. I wonder what comes with it? Turbo charger? DPF, SCR? Fuel pump & filters? Air filters? Maybe he was right about the 600 hp version with all the fixins. But there is still a big gap between a 500hp $29k motor and a 600hp $75k motor.

No way 75K. That diesel guzzler you got on that coach probably costs around 30K new.

Lot of variables.
My old Detroit has wet sleeves, what allow in-frame rebuild.
All parts can be bought for less than $1000 and even if you pay for labor it is about $3000

Well,
kind of in comparison, we were at a boat show a couple of months ago in Lake Havasu City AZ and, of course there were some outstanding boats, all kinds of boats, jet, family pleasure, cruising, fishing and much more. The "Mercury" reps were there with ONE of their latest show stoppers. It was a brand new, fresh off the press, "400HP" HI OUTPUT Mercury, four stroke outboard engine.

Because it didn't have a price on it, while sitting there on an engine stand, I asked. I 'bout fell over the price. He (one of the reps) without hesitation, blurted out, "JUST OVER $40,000". YEOW!!

Man things cost a lot to have fun! I guess that's why it "PAYS" to be Donald Trump.

This may explain why the new MH's we saw traveling last Sun/Mon were fairly short and gas for the most part and looked to be 25-32'

$30K is not bad for an over the road tractor that will see 1 million miles. Not so good for an older MH. Good pulls sounds reasonable however.

With older farm tractors often you can buy an entire good used tractor for what the company will charge for a new replacement engine. There are sources for most any kind of used engines and transmissions as have been noted.
