Ice maker problems

I defrosted the freezer the other day and afterwards the ice maker started overfilling the water so we had a solid block in the pan below. I remembered that several years ago this happened to us and we're told to adjust the screw that regulates the fill. I've turned it as far as it'll go to the minus side and we are still overfilling. Any ideas?

Ok, so now we're leaning towards a generic one. Are the wiring harnesses going to match up, or is this the problem with not getting Dometic brand?

As my post stated, the 4 wire quick connects are the same. Doug

Don't even think you need the exact model. A generic should be fine, but you might want to know how far apart the mounting holes are.

Amazon is fine, but eBay has them for $60, free shipping.

They are fixable, mine had a broken gear shaft and I had a great time fixing it. Check it out Ice Maker repair...

amazon is as cheap as 36$

It was 4 days ago when I defrosted. I think maybe the ice maker is leaking, darn it. Another question. Amazon sells a generic ice maker that says it replaces most ice makers. Could we use this? Or is there some reason we need a RV specific model

They are not RV specific. Just make sure you get the same type model. They usually only have 2 different models. Look at your old model and look at the new model pics. They will be identical if they are the same model. Norcold uses a different model than Dometic, BUT they may be interchangeable. I have never done it, but BOTH use the same 4 wire power plug and the same down spout cup. Doug

There are two factors that affect how full the tray gets.

1: The aforementioned screw

2: Water pressure

Now from the factory they are usually set for around 70-80 PSI, RV's SHOULD be aroudn 40-55 PSI, so you may need to "Open" the setting a bit (PLUS) but I know of one RV park where the pressure is over 110 PSI, enough to blow the ends off hoses, among other things, it can blow the seals on your toilet valve (Many are rated for 60 PSI) and if that happens you need to either (First choice) use a regulator (I have both Watts and Zurin 3/4 Inch whole house regulators) or B: adjust the screw the other way.

Or C.

Remove Ice Maker, Take delight in the lack of frost build up in freezer (Greatly reduced) take advantage of added space, And get a portable "Counter Top" ice maker.

If the freezer is not down to temperature when the ice maker cycles, which is still water, then refills for the next batch, it will over flow. You need to shut the ice maker off until the freezer recovers, usually 24 hours.

Right now we have water in the tray so it must have recently dumped. It appears that no extra water was poured into the bin below so I guess I'll see what happens in the next cycle

In 37 years of working on Icemakers in RV's and the stand alone U Lines, I have NEVER had to adjust the water solenoid timing. Are you positive it is NOT the mold that has a crack and the water is leaking out the bottom of the mold? (This is the usual cause).Doug

Defrost it again...possible ice dam in tube that enters the ice tray. Had this happen in our ice-maker once.

how would that effect over filling of the tray??
