OK, today I installed the reman PCM.....boy that was a messed up deal.....wouldn't start ,then when it did, died and it would not rev and had a terrible bogg when accelerating so this new computer definitely has the wrong program.....Iam in a real bad spot....ford says this year PCM is obsolete and not made anymore and they don't have any...the reman place cant put the proper program in it ...so now what?
Tried to buy dry ice to try Gale Hs idea but none around here.
I reinstalled my original PCM and Iam going to try to get to Texarkana in the cool AM...don't know what else to do.

I was hoping you would bag it in dry ice and prove or disprove my idea. :B

The reman and fresh update should be your answer.

Today I limped about 8 miles to a RVpark....and ordered a reman pcm from a Ford computer place on line as no one else has them....cost $380 and they will put my program in it according to the info on my pcm and my VIN. I will get it in two days and its plug and play .The dealership pulled the code from my memory ....shorted sprout circuit grounding my coil.......should work good.
PCM is located behind the steering column ..on the firewall. an extremely hot place most likely that's the cause.

Not to throw mud into the water, but if the dealer is wrong who will eat the cost of the new PCM? Not saying they are wrong, but a on again, off again short in the PCM seems like a WAG to me, unless they plugged it into some tester and saw it actually happening.

I like to use Corrosion-X spray on electrical connections. I would spray the connection to the PCM with it, and then chase done as many input connections as I could and spray them also. Easy for me to say that while I'm sitting here in a S&B, it's a whole different story when you're on the road with limited resources. Good luck.

Edit I added on other post. Sounds like one option. $400

Now that you know what it is and it is an easy swap out you could move to a near by location.

Wonder if you could go to WM/etc and get dry ice and pack it around it to travel home while you away the part? It may be the engine heat only that is causing the failure to appear.

Have them check Dealer to Dealer stock.
If none, some aftermarket companies have them. Check with the local auto parts store.
Some PCM's can be reflashed from another part number. If you can get me the calibration code or part number, I can check to see if yours is one of them.
Example; an F350 may have the same base PCM, just a different calibration installed. The dealer can "Reflash" that to your calibration.
Terry.

One thing they did know its darn expensive.

First hit on Google so double check specs and give your part/vin. $275 not too bad.

States junk yard is good place since they seldom fail.

Since they program with your vin and mileage they impress me more.$400

Have you checked all the Vacuum lines? I have not seen this mentioned. Also a bad coolant temp senor if it sends the wrong info to the ECM can cause issues like this on ODB1 systems. The ECM uses the info from this sensor to regulate air mixture. I have had and worked on mostly GM and Saturn ODB1 cars and this sensor especially on the Saturn cars would cause all sorts of running issues.
