Looking for advice on a class a gas

We have a C diesel now and are thinking of trading it in on the fr3 the floor plan works great for us but it uses gas we don't tow anything can anybody help with this wondering if it will under perform in the mountains we want to do the national parks in Colorado Utah etc the dealer told us about 8 miles to a gallon does that seem right?

I replaced my Class-C Coachmen Freelander 26SO with a Forest River FR3 25DS last year. We chose the 25-footer over the other longer units due to the same Ford V10 power plant and tranny combinations used in each. We drove from LA to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Virginia Beach, then Niagara Falls, NY. The gas rig provided about 8-miles per gallon on both outbound and return leg to LA. Because of the same power/tranny combination in all three FR3 units I opted for the shorter one to ensure that the added tonnage would not be a drag when passing vehicles or climbing hills or mountains. We did lose our main slideout on day-4, which cut our trip by one week. Emergency repairs were not available during our stay in NY. Warranty repairs were effected upon our return to homebase. The second (bed) slideout failed this week and will be repaired next week using my extended warranty. I hope this is helpful in making your selection.

Plenty of power. Loud is only on the steepest of grades, like 6,7,8 percent etc.

Thanks for all the advice we just don't want something that will under perform. The fr3 is a 30 with 2 slides

The Ford chassis and drivetrain will have no issue pulling hills. On the upside it's cheaper than a DP. But the V-10 is downright loud and difficult to hold a decent conversation on a hill. It will get you there but it's loud and proud about it. I have heard the new 6 speed transmission is better.

We moved up from a 32 ft Greyhawk"C" to a 36 Tiffin "A" and so far, after 4000 miles, I have nothing but praise for the performance, smoothness, and quieter ride qualities!
Of course, only time will tell, but the new 6 speed Ford tranny seems really great, and tow/haul works fine on hilly terrain.

I just went from a C diesel to an A gas and am very happy with it. The A is 7 ft longer with 3 slides. The room out weighs the difference.

That sounds right. The smaller gas RV will have more power then if it were in a 32-38 footer with the same engine. I don't think you will have any mountain climbing issues.
