We are planning on "Doing" Rhode Island this coming summer. I've looked in Trip Advisor but would like advice from those who have been there, done that. Maybe from those who live there and know of which they speak. Thank you one and all.

While you are in Providence do not miss the trip up College Hill to the Brown University Campus. Walk around University Hall built in 1766 (approx) look for the corner on the right when facing it from the Green and you will see where the Red Coats broke out the bricks to stable their horses during the Revolutionary War. School was founded in 1764. Get a local map of Benefit Street to see the homes of some of the famous Rev War era individuals.

Don't miss the River Fire if you can find when it is scheduled - When I was in School at Brown we didn't know there was a river there! it was decked over.

Campgrounds.
My Favorite, Normandy Farms (http://www.normandyfarms.com/), located in Foxboro (Old English Spelling Foxborough) Ma. Minutes from Gillette Stadium and Patriot's Place. There you have restaurants like CBS Scene and Toby Keith's and lots of shopping options. (http://www.patriot-place.com/) If you want Normandy, Book Yesterday... I mean it.

There is a new place in RI called Ashaway Campground (http://www.ashawayrvresort.com/). 100% 50 amp and FHU. I went there just after they opened and wasn't too impressed. But, I would recommend IF you use your RV Bathroom/shower and just using it as a place to stay, as the sites, to me, were small.

I hear good things about Fisherman's Memorial, but only 30 Amp.

Wawaloam does have 50 amp sites (https://wawaloam.com/). I have not been there. There location seems decent. They do have some weird rules there, like no outdoor rugs bigger than 2'x3'.

Looking through Woodalls, there are other places that I would try, also.

Gotta go to the "New York System" hot dogs in Olneyville just outside of Providence....it's been featured on many eating shows and has the Best dog's..IMHO! Also Dell's Lemonade is another local delight.

OK....guess that's all I got, I was born in RI but have been here in So Cal since I was a "baby"...we never miss these two places on our trips back east! Have Fun!

Melville Ponds is about 15 minutes from downtown Newport. It's in Middletown, RI. Pretty sure it's full hook ups. I have a PUP so only used the electric. Parking is attrocious in Newport in the summer so be prepared. Do the cliff walk. PIck one mansion. Tours are not cheap. Lot's of history that you can google. JFK and Jackie were married in Newport. I believe they were moving a replica French ship of sail from Revolutionary War to Fort Adams area but I'm not sure.

Good reasonable breakfast at Blue Plate Diner on West Main.

good ideas, y'all. Keep 'em coming. Choo Choo Man, I copied and pasted yours. Captain's Daughter brew looks interesting. Thanks. Campgrounds too with full hookups and 50 amp if possible.

We always hit up local breweries and Gray Sail is in Westerley. If you like ipa's Captains Daughter is pretty good. I just happen to have some in the fridge.

Depends of couse on what you like to do.
We toured RI last year and we spent a few days at Burlingame state park followed by a few days at Charlestown breachway. The beach being a short walk from our site at the breachway was nice. The stone / rocks surprised us at the surf edge but once past that no problem.
If you stay at the breachway (dry camping) you may use the facilites at Burlingame.

If you paddle (we canoe) Ninigret pond is nice. We saw oyster farming for the first time up close. Horseshoe crabs moving under us. We put in at Ninigret park.
The park is a hidden jem, check it out on Friday night, the free observatory was worth a stop.
They also have a neat little swimming hole with lifeguards.

Slater mill http://www.slatermill.org/ is a neat few hours.

The hot air balloon festival was neat http://www.southcountyballoonfest.com/

As other mentioned the cliff walk is a nice peek at what you can't afford. Or maybe you can but are smart enough to have a camper instead.

X3 on the Newport Mansions. Also, check out Water fire in Providence. Try a little seafood hut like Flo's clam shack or Iggy's Doughboy and chowder house. There are several companies offering dinner cruises on Narragansett Bay. A trip to Block Island would also be a great day. If you like wine, try a tour of Newport or Sakonnet vineyards. Downtown Westerly shops on the ocean are nice, as well as Mystic CT. Mohegan Sun abd Foxwoods casino are just over in CT, too.
