Looking to move up to class A next year...questions.

I have had my 24' class c for 2 years now and due to a reformat of our NFL parking lot, I now have space to park a larger RV.
Plus for a family of 4 and sometimes with 2 additional adults, camping in a 26' RV gets a bit tight.

Anyway, at what length does one really start to feel they are driving a HUGE RV? I am looking in the 30-36' size and wonder if the extra 6' is worth the trade off of the drive-ability in downtown streets such as Baltimore.

We are also looking to tow our Wrangler (4000#) when camping. This makes me feel like perhaps I should be looking at a DP for the extra torque and the addition of air brakes and engine braking. I know the brakes on my Rogue get a bit scary when just towing a trailer full of quads. However, I have never driven anything diesel so I know nothing about starting procedures, air bags, air brakes, etc. Is this something to be concerned with? Do larger gas-powered class a's have better braking systems than the class c motorhomes?

Lastly, I am trying to stick to the Tiffin, Monaco, Newmar, and Rexhall brands. I also like the styling of the Gulfstream's and Winnebago's. Are they of that much lessor quality than the first 4 brands mentioned?

Lastly, is having the drivers side door a big deal as the Tiffin's do? I don't care for how it breaks up the driver's side window. But is it a convenience I wished I had if I don't get it?

Thanks! Eric

I would recommend going to an RV show to see all of your options.
I really wanted the driver door but have not used it. We have ordered a new Diesel without the drivers door. As a rule of thumb a gaser can tow a 5,000 pound vehicle. We tow close to 3000 pounds. A diesel is typically good for 10,000 pounds. I have found the brakes on our gas coach to be acceptable. Of course it takes a pretty good distance to stop something that heavy. We personally have enjoyed our Tiffin for the past nine years. we are trading for a Tiffin Phaeton which is a diesel. I will say that I was surprised how well the 8.1 gas engine crossed the Rockies.

I went from a 26ft motorhome no slides to a 33ft with 2 slides and feels like I have twice the room, a gas motorhome will tow a Jeep Wrangler just fine, mine does.

Many will say longer has no issues with driving straight down the road but when it comes to getting gas and parking there's a difference, Full timing go large, camping up to 34ft will do.

I sure hope it is Philly and not Heinz Field. Steelers looked terrible....

My 40footer is actually 41.7 and I don't have any trouble. Kind of nice sitting above everyone. I can see for miles and miles.......makes it so much nicer. Drive a 40ft DP and see what you think. I bet you are surprised at how nice it is to drive....

If you think you might ever want a W/D now would be the time to think about it. Some don't off it except on larger MHs.

City bus drivers drive city streets all the time without problems. The newer MHs not only have great mirrors but back up cameras and side as well when using turn signals.

I tow a 4800 lb horse trailer with my gas class A in the mountains of CA with no issues whatsoever with braking or anything else for that matter.
