My problem now - First DP!

Well after deciding to get back into the Class A life, then deciding to find an older/affordable DP instead of a gasser, my wife and I bought a 2003 Allegro Bus M-32IP on the XC chassis. The coach is a one owner rig with most all the receipts since new, with 64k miles. We are looking forward to vacationing with the family in this beast.

Maintenance I am going to address right off the bat:
- Service the air brake system. In all his receipts I don't see any indication of this occurring. The brakes/air system seem to be functioning great, and the prior owner always said that he would have freightliner do whatever scheduled maintenance is needed. I'm assuming they have been serviced at some point but since I don't know - and this is a huge safety item - I will be taking care of that before any trips.
- Service the front wheel bearings and rear axle. Easy items to take care of, and I don't see them in the receipt history. Front hub oil looks a tad on the dark side.

Issues:
- Ice maker is broken, prior owner was quoted $400 to fix, not sure I'm going to worry about it...
- Dash AC only blows cold on Max AC. This is an interesting one and I actually found an old thread on the irv2 forum where someone had the exact same problem. Likely, this is a stuck mixer door (or otherwise non-functioning door) at the heater core. The reason why max AC works is that the water is actually turned off to the core via a vacuum controlled valve, when it is on max AC. Plan here is to remove the blower so I have access to view the door and see how it responds as the temp control is moved. Hopefully the issue is obvious.
- TV upgrade needed.. Tube TV was replaced with free standing flatscreen, but not HD.. I did not even know that was possible...

Nice looking rig!

Buy some new fire extinguishers.

Are you going to pull a car?

Back around 2003 EvansTempcon had an issue with a bad bunch of valves. Check the hot and cold cooling lines under the front hood and see if they're operating as they should.

I'm sure if yours was in the original bad batch it was changed long ago but time, could be contributing to the issue again.

Its a simple, easy fix if thats it.
There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.

Are you able to tun the dash fan at all speeds and only the AC works on high? Or are all fan speeds not working except high? If yo lost all speeds except high you need to replace the blower motor resistor. The resistor is usually in the ducting near the fan motor.

Fan works perfect. The mixer door is behind the blower so I need to pull the fan to see what it is doing.

The issue is only hot air is coming out - unless max AC is selected. Normal AC still has hot air. We found out through research that on Max AC, there is a valve that stops the flow of engine coolant to the heater core. That is why its cold on Max AC.

I just need to verify what issue the mixer door is having (ie. Door is stuck, actuator rod fell off, something broke...)

Indeed, I have a background as a mechanic (not diesel however), so I know my way around with a wrench (and when needed a hammer) ๐Ÿ˜‰

I get the sentiment about inheriting others problems with a used coach (especially almost 20 years old). Other side of that coin is - a lot of the issues new coaches have will hopefully be fixed by the prior owner. Also for us personally, no way we could afford a new DP currently.

If he had Freightliner do the annual maintnenace, there should be check sheets like the one attached that show what they did. For brakes, its, check, lube and replace as needed.

We found that the ice maker was a waste of space, we use the space to store frozen food. and buy bag ice.

Our 40' Bus looks the same as yours. The ice-maker quit working on ours too. Since we drink bottled water and don't trust our fresh water tank or rv park water to always be bacteria free, we decided to take out the ice-maker. It gives us more room in the freezer. We just buy a bag of ice every couple of weeks and use the original ice bin to keep it in. Just a thought.

On the Tv all you have to do it get the model # and brand and go from there. Its either a 720 or higher. We have a 720 dpi and the color and picture are better than the 1080 one.

Ice maker just go to homedepot, Lowes, Online and find one that fits. Does not have to be from just one source.

Rear bearing are lube from the rear end. If correct level then they are good.

Dash AC look like you working that.

Brakes your call.
