Ok so my husband said no more toy payments and has forced my hand. I can't stand the idea of going one summer more without an rv. I was just offered an RV for 5k. I know, wouldn't it be great to have a big expensive new one but the answer is no. Hubby says I have to get rid of a toy to get another. Blah blah. Anyhoo I only have 5 to spend. So project rv it is. Ok so here is my concern...there are two major issues. One, there is a two foot section of roof rot that you can feel through the ceiling. The second is it looks as if it ran into something on the side. No dent, but two fractures about 6 ft apart from each other. Remember I can't get a new one. 8 can't even get a newer one. 5k was my budget. Also to note...this is a 1990 with 48k miles. I am just wondering if these fixes will be huge deal. I won't keep this thing longer than a couple of summers. My husband is totally going to see things my way after this big ugly thing sits in the driveway. I will get a nice one soon enough, but do you think those two factors are enough to kill the deal? 5k for a coach with 48k miles, roof damage and side damage. Kelly blue book lists it at 10k. This will not be a round the world traveler. Its going 30 miles away to the lake on trips. Thanks...amanda

My hubby gave me the same small comfort price this spring. LOL. So I showed him what it would buy. Needless to say he changed his mind. On 6/21 we bought a garage kept 1998 Damon Intruder. We used the 5k as the down payment and payment are only 158 a month. We pick it up at the dealer next week. Needed to schedule the walk through and be taught to drive it (since we are new to class a).

Just keep looking! That one you don't want anything to do with it. There are sound, older RV's out there. Are you looking for a motor home or a trailer? I gather a motor home since you posted in this forum.

Ignor mileage. With older units it is not the mileage, but the condition that counts. You might consider a Craigs list ad for "Wanted - clean, older, sound Motor Home for $5,000 or less". You will get a number of calls for units that are trash, but you might fine a jewel that has just been sitting and will need refreshing, but not rebuilding.

Low priced RV==trouble. Best do motels this season and save up for better unit.

From one wife to another.....no need to run, just don't go back!

It doesn't matter what you have accomplished in the past, this is now. As the old guy said, you really don't know what is lurking behind those walls. My son had a 5th wheel, thought there was a little work when his son poked a finger through the bedroom wall. He told the repair shop to go ahead and fix it. That tiny hole ended up costing over 8K.
Seriously, buying this unit may just work the opposite way for you and turn your husband completely off the thought of owning another RV. There will be something better out there for you.

Ugh...men are so depressing. Just teasing. Lol. So if I tell you I stripped my bathroom floor to the joists and replaced (I proudly own an arsenal of power tools that may impress you) it, and could potentially tackle repairs on my own....would that change your mind or would you still have me run?

if you are going to waste 5K on a TT with damage and leaks, you might as well send me the money and we will both be happy. I would like to your hubby and stay away from that TT. you might think it is a small issue but without tearing into the sides or the ceiling to really see how much damage there is, you just can't be too sure how much that 5K TT is going to cost you to be able to go out and enjoy it. run momma run, (away from it). I would never consider a TT with damages like that.
