New to this forum-Hurricane 34B

Hi All,

We are currently in the middle of purchasing a 2008 Hurricane 34B that we really like the layout of. We have been in a class C unit (an '07 Fleetwood that we had for around 3.5 years) and decided we would like a little larger unit that of course still has room to sleep our 2 daughters (in the bunks). My mother also comes with us often so the space is nice. We are not full timers by any means. Mostly weekends in the summers and then a trip once a summer thats about a week long. Someday when we retire we plan on full timing but for now we are weekend warriors!

I guess my question is if anyone has some comments about the Hurricane or Thor units in general it would be greatly appreciated! Whether good, bad or ugly-any little quirks to them, etc. The motorhome seems to be in very good shape (it has about 20K for mileage & about 350 hrs on the gen) so that tells me the prior owner used it regularly which I do like, thus working out any kinks that may have been there. He kept it in excellent condition

This site seems to be great! Although we have had a class C for 3.5 years or so, I consider myself very new to RVing. All the helpful hints here are great. Just gaining knowledge on the inner workings of the RV or any RV is very helpful!! Sorry for the long post but any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hi DKM08,

We have had our 2007 34B since new and have traveled across country a few times and now have about 30,000 miles on it. We do like the layout. And the Hurricane had larger bunks than most, which was good for us as our kids are getting older and can still fit.

Like any rig, you have your issues. Our biggest one was a transmission failure, but it was covered under warranty by Ford. Most other issues we have had are typical. We had the Dinette leak (keep the outer mouldings caulked) and the dome over the shower leak, but those are really maintenance things. The center marker light over the windshield is known to come loose, so keep an eye on that. We also had the front "leatherette" seats wear out. Not sure why (cheap material?). Basically we found to use very gentle cleaners on them.

Other than that, you may find yourself adding things to the rig to enhance the trips like a TPMS system (a must),etc. The best thing I added was hydraulic lifters to the outside storage doors. I got tired of using my head to hold them up. You can get them here: http://www.hatchlift.com/. Probably the best thing I did to the rig.

Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to post them and I am sure you will find lots of help here.

We've owned our 2008 FW Hurricane 34B for two years now. It was bought to take a 10 week cross country trip but then I got a new job. We've used the 34B for a few weekend camp trips then I moved. I lived in our 34B for just over two months. We're in a house and the RV is back in use for camping.

The only issue we've had so far is a few roof seals needed to be redone. A corner wood trip pieced on the living room slide fell off.

It runs great. I really like the engine break / cruise control feature but I can't always activate it for some reason. I do wish at least one of the storage compartments were a tad bigger for our bbq. I didn't buy a Moho for fuel economy, just like my AM General Hummer-who cares. Life's better rv'ing!

We love our 34B but I just happened to see the new Hurricane 34J HDMaxx-wow I am IN LOVE. Full body paint, outside kitchen features, outside tv, unique mulit functional bunk area / couch/kennel.

Look for a gently used one. Lots cheaper!

DW and I almost pulled the trigger on a 2012 Hurricane 31J with the power front bunk last year. Ultimately the price was just too high. VERY nice rig though.

Johno02,
I'm sorry you lost your Xena. They are unique dogs and do become an important part of a family. I do like the idea of table and chairs instead of the booth. It makes the area look larger.

Aside from that, Our 29D did not have slides, so we did without. Look at the album "MH floor replacement" and you can see the dinette mod, and when we redid the floor, we also put large drawers under the couch. By taking out the dinette and replacing it with a fold-down table and chairs, the drivers seat could recline and slide all the way back. the box under the stairs was a big help also, and was a have to do when I found the space was available. You can see when we finally replaced the dining chairs with on-sale rolling desk chairs which worked really good(except for keeping them in place while driving, long story there).

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I see you have a greyhound in your "family". We have two ourselves. I like the revisions you made but I couldn't do without at least one slide. I have been looking at the Hurricane models also and was glad to see some input on them.

Ill be sure to post my thoughts & maybe some pics on our unit for you too when we pick it up if it helps as well.

Thanks Noel!! I'm not one to be easily offended so if people call it an entry level RV that's no biggie. ๐Ÿ™‚ as you said in your post, you all had a great time with your hurricane & it worked great! So that's a great reassurance & really all we can ask for! I can't wait to get out with it! I will for sure keep you all posted on how it's going. Thanks again for all your help! I'm really liking the forum & all the nice people on here
