New to us Tuscany

Well, we just made the jump 'back' into a Class A DP. We're planning Alaska for 2014 and wanted to be back on the air ride and to enjoy those things that are nice about a DP. The coach we just traded in was a 2006 Jayco Seneca diesel HD. Nice coach, but for the long haul I'll take a DP everytime. This time, we found a 2008 Damon Tuscany 4072. Our last DP was a 2003 Phaeton that we enjoyed immensely. I'm hoping the 360 hp Cummins ISC works for us. I'm thinking it should be enough as the 330 CAT in our old Phaeton pulled pretty good.

Anyways, I just thought I'd 'check in' over here in the Class A section..

The 8.3 ISC will do fine.

That's what I figured, Blaster. I see the new ones come with a 6.7L ISB. Same HP, but less torque. I'm not sure that was a good idea??

We got a little over 8 mpg on our journey to idaho and back. Not bad because our Chevy 454 was about 6!

We recently traded from a 2007 Seneca 35 GS wth 20,000 miles on the clock, to a 2005 Newmar Dutch Star, (with 30,000 miles) We are very happy with our decision as the DP has a lot more liveable space and is beautifully built. The Seneca was a big disappointment in that the build was shoddy to say the least.

On the Seneca we got an average of 10 MPG. The Newmar is yet to be tested.

Thanks for the replies, folks.. Honestly, due to the cost of fuel these days, we (mostly me, not my wife) were thinking about getting out of motorhoming altogether. But Sue said to me, "Ran, its only expensive if you keep thinking about it." Ha, I guess she's right. We were fortunate to travel virtually the entire contiguous USA with the kids back in the 90s when fuel was cheap (relatively speaking, that is). Now its time for just Sue and I to enjoy traveling together. I guess you can't take it with you when you go, so here we are!

What are you Tuscany owners seeing for MPG on these things? 8....9? We were getting a tick over 9 with the Seneca (Duramax diesel).

We just bought our 2008 Tuscany 4076 last month and also love it. Just drove it from Oklahoma to Florida so we have no experience in mountain country, but it pulled our Honda CR-V just fine. I could not even tell we were pulling a car. Congratulations and have fun.

We got our Tuscany a year ago and love it. Went up over the pass at Jackson Hole, Wyoming last year with no problem. Not real fast, but good power pulling our Santa Fe. Around 10,000 feet straight up it seems. Can't say the same about the wife. She doesn't care for those heights. Spent the winter in Iowa at the trailer park and it is fun getting to know it.

Thanks Bob & Ann. I used to use this forum a lot, but kinda got away from it for a while. No particular reason....just drifted off in other directions, I guess..
