We have a 1999 coachman santara class A 38'. We have no couch power when using the batteries. We do have shore power. Had to start the generator.. but it is having issues starting.. hubby was trying to get generator to start and I believe it shorted the tv above the driver/passenger.. it started smoking..( hurry up and ripped tv out).. now.. no lights or anything when not plugged in .. any ideas what it can be?

Follow the cables from your coach battery. They should attach to a small box (DC Circuit Breaker) usually on the wall of the battery compartment. Feel around this box...the reset switch is tiny, you may even need a pen to push in to reset.

Good Luck, hope it fixes it!

Any idea where to look for DC Circuit breaker? Called Coachmen... they were no help.

Thinking generators issue is fuel filter.

Have you looked for the DC Circuit breaker? It should fix your 12 Volt problem.

On my unit, there is a tiny breaker button on the DC Circuit breaker (Small connector where the battery wires connect to the coach). I had same issues...pressed that little button and all was cured.

Just so you know, when you start the generator, you should let it run for a minute or so before you use power. It is not supposed to be under load when it is started. That could also be why it won't stay running. Shut all electric appliances off - then try to start and after running, then turn electric items back on.

Check for two breakers on the generator.

batteries are fully charged.. and yes when plugged in converter works...when the generator starts.. the generator runs for a few seconds and shuts off. If you hold switch in for generator it runs as soon as you let go it shuts off

Is the master switch for the batteries turned on (some times called the salesman switch). Have you checked the batteries voltage should be 12.6 or better if fully charged. When plugged in to shore power is the converter or inverter charging the batteries.
