Norcold recall box red light

I was looking at the side of my motorhome and noticed a red glow coming from the refrigerator vent. Upon removing the cover, I noticed the little black box they attached to the tubes when they did the recall had a red light illuminated. This struck me as odd since the refrigerator is off and the Rv is winterized. The Rv is plugged in for battery maintenance. I tried unplugging 12 volts and ground from the box but when I plug is back in, within the seconds you hear a relay click and the light comes back on. What should I try next?

It had a happy ending at least.

Good luck.

Ah, Norcold who not only cannot make a good fridge they also do not know how to make a device that prevents fires ( maybe).

One of two things has happened........

The recall box has done what it was designed to do..trip all power due to a high-high temp (700*F) which is unlikely because fridge wasn't ON

OR

The recall box has failed........not an uncommon problem

Resetting it with magnet does work....resets it
BUT the recall box still is faulty (as it has proved by tripping for no real reason)

So Call Norcold....get an appointment with a mobile repair (authorized) and have the faulty recall box replaced. Pay the service call fee and be done with it.

I've had the box apart. The switch you are trying to reset is directly above the red light. Keep rubbing the magnet there back and forth. It might take over a minute. Also, mine was flashing and I think the way they attached the ground was at fault. Secured the ground and all good so far.

Make sure you have power to the coach and the box is still attached. Hold the magnet over the top right corner. You should hear a click and the light should go off. Holding the box in your hand and using the magnet does nothing, it must be attached.

At a toy or hobby shop, or try Lowes or Home Depot or even Amazon. I carry a strong magnet with me in my trailer just in case.

Here is more info on where to place the magnet:

I'll try again, where can I find a strong enough magnet?

It just failed. Had nothing to do with operation of the refer. The magnet "trick" does not always work. The recall will be warrantied by Norcold, but you may have to pay a .5 hour labor charge to check the refer operation to make sure it did not fail due to a cooling unit failure. Rev E is the current Rev for the recall. Doug

Just rub the magnet on the back of the box until you hear a click.

The cure involves the use of a magnet, but I'm not sure where people place the magnet to resolve the problem.
