I've never seen this problem posted before so...here goes: When the coach has sat unused for a few days and I then turn on a water faucet - kitchen or bath, it runs pure black water for a couple seconds then clears up. It seems that when water sits in the piping, it becomes black. As soon as the water that was sitting in the piping runs out and water begins coming from the holding tank, it clears up. Is there black piping that might be deteriorating causing the black water? Will appreciate any thoughts about this...whatever it is! / Larry

GOT IT OFF !! Finally! Instruction manual said to turn it counter clockwise to remove. That's what I was trying to comply with. Happened to try it clockwise and it came right off with use of an oil filter wrench.

Great. Did the instructions refer to the coupler being turned counter clock wise. Just typing out loud. Sometimes instructions aren't written well. My wife is a tech writer and can tell ya some stories.

Have you put a new filter on? If you have a bypass (likely) you can flush it first then switch to filter. You might get some bit of black out on first use. Does the new filter say to run water through it or soak it first. That could get rid of (some) black water.

New filter order but not yet received. Not aware of a "bypass".

Once you get the new filter in go through the faucets the water ran through and change/clean the final screens. When I had a filter freeze and deposit charcoal in the system I had to replace the diverter valve for the kitchen sink as well.

Don't know weather you got it off yet or not, but just happened to think to make sure pump is off and thrtr is no water pressure in lines before trying to remove it. My snap fittings are almost impossible to remove is there is any pressure at all on the lines.

Is this a whole house canister or in line, under sink.

I use a VERY large pipe wrench on my filter when it gets stuck. Jaws have to open up to about 4 inches.

If you find out that the filter is NOT the problem, you might look for a piece of steel pipe in the lines somewhere. Being a plumber I found over the years that some home owners would use steel nipples to fix their plumbing. Look around faucets or water heater for steel. Water that sits in steel over night will turn black for a second and then clear up. That is why they used galvanized pipe years ago, it's all plastic now.

To clean out your freshwater system AFTER you change the filter. Run fresh clorox water theu the piped...drain and refill with fresh tap water...etc..etc.

You might try 2 pair of large water pump pliers. I don't think you can get enough perch with an oil filter wrench.
