hi all, I have the 97 American eagle, with 325 hp Cummins & 6 sp Allison tranny when cruising @ 50 -55 mph @ 15 -1700 rpms we are at 65-70 psi although when we come to a stop @ idle we go down to 20 psi ? any thoughts we have 101'000 miles and everything has been changed ie fluids & filters thanks

A Cummins engineer told me that 10 pounds pressure at idle is more than enough.

That is also part of the reason you don't let a diesel idle for long periods without a faster idle speed.

The main reason for using the fast idle is to reduce fuel dilution of the oil because of unburnt fuel. low idle especially when the engine is not up to temp will be too cold to get full combustion of your fuel.
Basically if you are showing over 5 psi at idle you are good.

My Diesel truck at idle is around 20psi for oil.. Its just the way Diesel's are, they dont produce much PSI at idle.. As long as your 60 plus down the road you shoud be good..
