Has anyone had to replace the side mirrors on a Class A RV? Would this be a DIY project? We have located the part needed, but are still wondering if we can replace the mirror ourselves or should we take it to an RV repair shop. Thanks for any help.

Replaced my pass side also. Ryder Fleet Products. Velvac mirror head unit. Was $155 shipped back in 2009.

Hit a tree, mirror broke off at the score on the pot metal coupling, left both ends of the electrical connection.

Just a allen screw to loosen, took out the broken coupling half, connected the wires and tightened up the screw. Had DW sit in pilot's seat to ensure I got the mirror angle correct.

depends on the type of mirror
i replaced a mirror on the 95 safari

but think the big swing out forward mounted 'elephant ears' would be difficult and heavy

Yes I have, but I guess it depends on how handy you are and how much has to be done. The chrome on the arms and bases was coming off of mine and I found a good deal on a pair with cameras in them. Naturally the wiring for adjusting the mirrors was completely different so it took longer to get that figured out and converted than mounting the new mirrors.

Several of the mounting holes were rotted out so I had to drill them out bigger and epoxy 1/4" nuts in the bigger holes. The camera wiring has simple as the four wires were all in one cable and buying a compatible monitor, it was plug and play.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

It depends on the make and type of the mirror. I had a truck hit my driver's side mirror. Found a replacement and had to have a tech replace it due to the fact that the mirror had electrical connections for remote and heat.
