Thanks. I was wondering what kind of radiator problems to anticipate or check for that are relevant to the old RV (Besides obvious corrosion, damage, leaks, hoses?). Although old it has 64,000 mi and I am wondering how much life would be left on the water pump? I'm not anticipating many more miles to go.
I'll get the thermostat, hoses and bypass hose for sure - (good advice).
I've done plenty of 'shade tree' mechanic-ing but not much on the RV yet.....
Is it easier to remove the 'hood' for this surgery?
I should have asked about the A/C condenser (not evaporator) But sounds like you told me about the right thing.
It does have the oil cooler- I presume the hoses need to be disconnected...
I'm going to start a new topic for Hydra-Boost brake questions.

Thanks again.

I replaced mine with one from Oreilly auto parts. Check to see if you have an engine oil cooling setup. Look for two lines about .5 diameter coming off engine near the oil filter.
Radiator
New thermostat would be beneficial.
Did you get the water pump bypass hose?

Already have the belts, Will do the water pump (thanks). What do you recommend for radiator work? It did loose coolant over 2 years of sitting but I haven't tried to ID the leak yet. I'm also replacing the brake power booster (hydraulic)- any more tips?
Thanks again for your time, experience and help.

You should be able to take the condensor loose and fold it down, then remove the radiator.
'89 rig are you going to do a water pump replacement while you are in there? What about belts and hoses? What about a radiator?
It would save a lot of work later on. Yes, more dollars now but may save in the long run.

I too need to replace my change a power steering pump on an 89 Pace Arrow with a Chevrolet p-30 454 engine.
Do I need to disconnect the A/C evaporator in front of the radiator or can it be rotated somehow. I don't want to release the freon as I don't have anyway to capture it. and I can't get the RV to a garage.
Thanks for any advice and I hope Mike's repair went well.

It could be worse, he could be asking what tools he needed and how to do his brakes.:S

Pain in the A** if you don't pull the radiator. The motor mount is right there, oil pressure sending unit blocks some access.
Once you get the belts off, you will find that the mounting bracket needs to come off the block. Going back together, is reverse, sort of. The belts get to be nasty, because the safety power steering belt goes on first. With the radiator in, it is hard to find the square hole for the 1/2 socket breaker bar to get belt tight. Then you do the second belt tighten off the AC compressor. then on mine the serpentine belt, tighten off the alternator.
Good time to replace belts if you remove radiator.
Good time for radiator work! Maybe water pump!
I had a shop do mine. I think they took 4 hours.

I was wondering how many people would have a โ€œ89 Pace Arrow with a Chevrolet p-30 454 ciโ€ in there back yard so they could make sure they told you each detail correctly.
