Question of license requirements across states

Hey guys... Forgive if this is a common question, but I didn't see it.

So my state only requires a standard license. My question is... If I drive across country will I need to meet licensing requirements of each state or Candian Providence I went through? Or will it be considered... I meet the requirements of my issued state so that's good enough even if I'm in a CDL state/Providence?

Thanks guys!

So it sounds like what you both are saying is if my personal license matches my RV's registration, and heaving forbid I get pulled over in a state that has different requirements such as a CDL... Then I should be good because I am legal per my home state's requirements.

Thank you!

There in fact is an interstate drivers license pact that allows you to operate any vehicle you are licensed to drive in your home state, in any state. The registration of the vehicle is not a requirement of the pact. So you can rent or borrow a motorhome registered in some other state and drive it, as long as you're legal in your home state.

Good to know, I did not know that. when you say proof of insurance, not just the card, are you referring to the binder?

Thanks!

If you go into Canada, make sure to get "proof of insurance for Canada" from your insurer. The regular card for the States will not suffice.

yeah... I just spent some time googling out of personal interest and it seems that all our provinces and territories as well as your states and most UK and EU have reciprocal bits.

exceptions from Canada and US are ATV, Snow machine, boats.

For drivers license all states honor the one from your state. Should be the same state that vehicle registration is in, but states have reciprocal agreement and honor each other's.

I know that here in Manitoba to insure a 3500 or higher you must insure as commercial, and I know that to haul a trailer of greater than 5540KG or 10K pounds a person requires a professional drivers license.

how ever, I know that if you came up here from ND with your 3500 and personal joe drivers license and got pulled over, they dont do anything about it.
