Sewer hose question

We just purchased a Thor Chateau 31E. In the sewer compartment, there is an access hole in the bottom for the sewer pipe to enter so that the compartment door can remain closed while camping. However, the hole is directly under the connection point/dump valves. This makes the access hole useless as a standard sewer hose will not fit. Has anyone with a 31E solved this problem? I was thinking about getting a Valterra 2' compartment hose since it has a smaller diameter but I'm still not sure it will fit.

Manufacturers should include a DVD that covers connecting of sewer hose and dumping of waste water, connecting of cable TV vs roof antenna , sanitizing of fresh water tank, deploying awning, securing and stowing it, starting and shutdown of RV generator and roof AC and care and maintenance of house and starting batteries. Should also cover testing of converter/charger and explain 12 volt DC and 110volt AC power systems and what they power.

There are You Tube videos that cover much of RV operation and maintenance, but average RV'er may not have Internet acccess on the road.

Thanks for the replies. The hole is threaded and has a plug for it so no worries there. Just like Dick B states, another example of the RV designers not using the rigs they design.

It is a nice idea, and I'm sure it was intended for semi-permanent parking where one would not have the hose protruding... but I'd probably look at a way of sealing it, at the minimum with some mouse control wire mesh.

Interesting design 😮 I would cover that hole to prevent foreign debris for getting into it.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Just another example of the RV designers never camping in the rigs they design.

I have the same thing in my sewage bay.

I fixed it....by covering it and never using it! :B

You will find you will NEVER use it anyway and if you buy a Rhino sewer hose and some other brands the end coupling will NOT fit thru that opening.

Think about it, the way that opening works is you have to get on your knees to push the sewer hose "up" thru that opening every time you want to dump. Trust me you won't want to and the end coupling will not fit thru it anyway. :W It's not designed to go from the top down.

If yours did not have a cover for that opening you really should get it covered. Water, mud while driving will kick up into it and it is a welcome mat for critters.

put a 90 Degree elbow on it if it does not move. Have winnebago with same setup and the elbow works.

Are you sure that the entire sewer pipe mechanism doesn't rotate down towards the ground? Often times if this feature is built in it takes a strong amount of pressure to get the pipe to rotate.
