Screws in the ceiling?

I need to replace a ceiling-mounted CO detector and I can't find any current models that fit the existing base plate, so it looks like I have to attach a new base plate to the interior ceiling. The ceiling appears to be some kind of padded vinyl. Can I just use screws to attach the new base plate and detector?

When we replace both of ours. WE use screws. One was close to a light and I could put a screw clip also on that one. Been that way for the past 8 years. Ready for a replacement .

I only see one option......screw it on. Or you will just be making problems for yourself down the road.

Take the OLD detector and lay it on a sheet of wood I'd go a bit thicker than quarter inch, perhaps 3/8.. Mark and cut out the circle.

Using the ORIGINAL screws and holes mount it,, then mount to it.

However you dont' need to do that

NOTE: Atwood detectors, the round ones, Really Kidie in disguise.

I am surprised that a CO detector would be on the ceiling. They are supposed to be down low, as CO sinks. Are you talking about a smoke detector ?

Yep, and the screws wont let the weight of the detector separate the ceiling material from it's backing as you bounce down the road.

Our is mounted on a wall. Just checked because I wasn't positive, but best results are when mounted about 5 ft above the floor.

There is ALWAYS 1/8 to 3/16 wood luan behind the Vinyl. Just use regular 1 inch wood screws. Doug

Command strips worked for me. Put a few on there.

Double sided sticky tape, that fat stuff that's impossible to remove once you stick it on.

But, if you use the exact same screws that hold it on now, you'll probably be OK. If you do have to get a new screw, don't get anything longer than what's currently there.

I'd do the double sided sticky fat tape myself.
