Second or Even Third Generator Remote Switch

Wondering if anyone has ever had a second generator start switch installed. Seems like it would be easier to have a switch in the cockpit area and even one outside the coach (other than the one on the generator itself). Is this something that could be done? It seems DW has issues getting the genny started when were on the road, my only starting switch is mid-coach.

sorry for the late information but my generator is a 2012 vintage Onan 5500 gas.

Yes autostart but you can turn that component off and turn the gen on/off manually.

Ours has one in the service cabinet, dash, bedroom, on genny

Exactly. My Bounder has the generator start switch on the dash. I paralleled a second switch in the galley. Not a big task.

Yes, Onan does. I installed the wireless unit and keep the control module on my dash. There is also a hardwire unit, but the wireless gives you great flexibility. It took about 30 minutes to install if you are pretty handy.

My Bluebird has three, one on headliner above the dash, one in kitchen, and one in the rear bedroom. So, it is possible. Wireless sounds good. One more remote!

Our '97 Dynasty has a genny switch on the dash, on the remote panel above the passenger seat, above the driver's side nightstand in the bedroom and on the genny itself. So, yes, it can be done. Of course, these were all factory installed, but it should be possible to add a switch wherever you want.

Still don't have the brand. Just buy a remote starter kit from Ebay and wire it into the existing wires making sure you use heat shrink and solder the splices. you can buy splices from mouser.com solder shield and tubing. You slide it over the wire and heat shrink it on melting the solder inside as you do.

I installed a wired remote in the Bedroom .just ran some four conductor wire through the cupboards!

Then I discovered that there are inexpensive wireless remote controlled relays available on eBay!

Advantage to wired it is always I the same place!

Wireless works from many different locations!

Some controls require the circuit closed to run, open to stop, when doing multiple locations, a simple latching relay works nice, hit it,it turns on or off depending where is was.
Some Onan make contact to start, then make different contact to stop.
ie 1&3 start, 1&2 stop, so why the question, what ya got ?

I should have Googled before asking. Yes they do make wireless remote switches for generators. You attach the receiver end to the generator and then you have a remote switch that can operate from up to 100' away. Lots of different types out there depending on the generator you have. May be a lot easier than trying to run wires for a new switch.
