Shower/Bath Tub Maintanence

I have a large shower/bath tub and after 12 years I have noticed that water is leaking out where the glass meets the tub. No problem, I need to re-caulk and seal the leaks.

What the bigger issue is, is that the tub has rough surfaces, where the glass and tub come together, almost like rust, but I'm not sure it is rust or just buildup from the hard water.

My question: Whats the best way to fix this ?

Thanks

After 12 years the sealant under the glass frame needs replacement. Take it apart and clean it up and put in new seals and reseal the frame back to the base. Just did ours a few years back. Had to replace the base frame due to corrosion. Just resealing would not have found that.

If it is deposits try spraying the tub/shower with Tilex Daily Shower. Makes the walls slippery so the `stuff' doesn't stick.

If it is hard water deposits you can remove them with vinegar. Roll up some paper towels and soak them in white vinegar, then lay them on the rough areas for a few hours. The deposits should break up and come off with a light scrubbing. If the deposits are thick, you may have to repeat the process. The vinegar won't damage any metal, unlike products like CLR.
