Side Mirrors

We have a 2006 Coachmen Freelander 2600. The side mirrors are manual which is a pain. Can these be changed out to electric mirrors? If so, any ideas on cost or is this possibly a DIY project. Has anyone changed out manual side mirrors for electric mirrors?

Thanks Trackrig, JaxDad, and CloudDriver for the replies. Looking at those numbers I think we will just live with what we have. After all, it is just an entry level motor home...but we still enjoy it =). The main reason the power mirrors would be nice would be when backing up the boat trailer at certain trailer parking spots but I am sure it is nothing we can’t learn to do without adjusting the mirrors.

Whether or not you are up to it as DIY project, the parts will be in the $500-700 range, depending on how good a price you can get. If you have a major RV service place do it, you will likely pay retail on the parts and 2 to 4 hours labor.

When a manufacturer configures a model line for entry level pricing, that $10K savings compared to the competition is made up a few hundred here, a few hundred there. In the mirrors, you found one of the savings. A lot of the stuff, like fancier wheel "simulators" and dashboard trim, is cosmetic, but the power mirrors would be important to me.

The Velvac power mirrors come heated or not heated. You might save a little if you can do without the mirror heaters. I've never turned mine on, if there is frost covering the rig it will be parked in storage.

I had to replace the passenger side remote controlled mirror and arm on our 2003 Minnie a few years ago. I bought the new mirror assembly from Ryder Fleet Products. Their current price for the one mirror assembly is currently $243. You might be able to buy the mirror head without the arm. Obviously, you need both side mirrors and the wiring and control panel, so this is going to add up.

Mine has manual mirrors too, don't think I've ever moved them since I bought it.

If I was looking for a set though I'd be checking with a wrecking yard. You're going to need a bunch of wiring, new interior door handles, etc. , etc.

I think Dennis / Executive said that he had looked at two new Velvac mirrors and arms because the chrome on his were pealing and the cost was over $700 per side. I had to replace a complete right head a little while ago and the cost was $300+. I would adjust my mirros occasionaly for $1,500.
