Site length

Hello all
Just bought a 2018 Thor Hurricane 35M (class A). We have camped for years with a 30' travel trailer. We will be pulling a trailer with a car inside it. The MH is 37' long and the trailer 20' long for a total of 57'. When I make a reservation should I put 37' (length of MH), or 57' for the total length, including towed trailer??
I am assuming 37' as I always asked for 30' with my travel trailer and never included my tow vehicle.....probably a silly question. Just want to be certain before booking my first ever MH site.

Very good point Dennis. My new 37' 5th wheel can't make it through some of the narrow roads inside some campgrounds. Especially in State parks. I've been lucky so far and haven't had to back out of a curve I couldn't make. If in doubt, I'll walk through it before attempting to drive.

The change we made when we started towing the car hauler ...We don't book online without calling also unless I can pick the specific spot and it's clear it's long enough by the listing and photos or google earth views ....even then I like to call and confirm. Most online sites want the mh length only ( koa comes to mind ) but have a category "motorhome towing" .. not enough info so I call and talk to a real person AT the campground not some reservation site.
I just need 67' I don't worry about the car .. the car stays in the trailer or if I take it out it goes in overflow parking or back in the trailer ea day just like the "garage" it is

If you plan to park the 57' RV/Trailer on your site you will not come even close to fitting that rig on a 37' site. It's really just common sense. When we travel in our 40' coach with toad we are about 60' long and if we just want to pull in late and leave early we ask for a long pull through where we will not need to disconnect the tow car. If we plan to stay for a day or more then we say we have a 40' RV and let them select the site. It just depends upon your needs but don't make the mistake of pulling into a campground with a 57' rig and 37' rig reservations as not only will you not be able to park the rig you may not even be able to get around the campgrounds tight turns and obstacles.

We have a 40' motorhome towing a 22' car trailer. Bumper to bumper is 65'. When we make reservations, we ask for a 65' pull-through. We don't need anything longer than that because it only takes a minute to open the ramp door and back the car out. We close the ramp door and go sight-seeing. When we come back we open the ramp door and put the car back in the trailer.

If a pull-through is not available, we ask if there is a place to park the trailer separate from our site. So far, we have not been turned away anywhere because of the 65' length. It helps if the car that you are hauling is able to move the trailer around.

Mention both. With your original towed car, you could easily move or park it anyplace. That's not the situation with the trailer. It's not a simple matter of length. And you'll still have to consider where to put the car after you remove it from the trailer.

Not to change the subject but are you sure you're not towing too much weight? Specs show your trailer has a tow hitch capacity of 8,000 pounds but the difference between your motorhome's GVWR and its GCWR is only 4,000 pounds.

A 60 foot site will be about 30 feet short. Add in the bumpers, the hitch, the ramp to the trailer and the vehicle in the trailer, you will need a site nearly 100 feet long for everything to fit in it. The logistics of an RV towing a car hauler trailer are much more complicated than a motorhome and a towed either 4 down or on a dolly. If someone were to show up with an unannounced car hauler we would often have no choice but to turn them away.

I've got the system down so much that, if all they have is a back in, and there's still some room for our toad, we'll have that thing disconnected in less than a minute. A pull-through is nice if, it's long enough. Heck, even then we'll still more than likely disconnect, just go look for some dinner maybe. So, if you'd like not to disconnect, better tell them you need 60'.

Both. Depends if back in is ok as you may unhitch or you want pull through. Provide all the info.
