Snap Disc Thermostat for Norcold external fans

I am going to install some extra fans behind the 1200 Norcold. I have read where others used a disc thermostat that was NO and closed at 130. Where can I obtain one of these? I know they are cheap items but some of the places want almost $20.00. Thanks

A couple words on the fans....

1. Ball bearing are better than sleeve bearing.
2. Check the CFM on the ones you're considering. They vary greatly. You want the best bang for your buck. Get ones with a high CFM or you could be disappointed.

Here's a link to what I did...YMMV...Dennis

I do not see why not because there is nothing "Norcold" about the fans and disc as far as i know. You just have to find a 12v source behind the frig. We got our computer fans from Radio Shack.
I was thinking it would be the same, but wanted to make sure.

My fan install is on a Dometic.

Don't want to steal the thread, so after the Norcold discussion is done, can we do this concerning a Dometic fridge external fans?

On really hot days the fans shut off a couple of hours after dark. I also ordered a 120/100 at the same time but was happy with the 110/90 and never changed it. It's mounted a foot or so below the roof and kind of a pain to pull the vent cap to get at it.

Dennis I expect you are correct on a 1200.

Mine run all the time, but I only have to set the fridge thermostat to 2 to keep everything at the correct temp. I figure the fans are less expensive than running the fridge at 5 or 6...but I've been wrong before....:B....Dennis

Hi Moisheh,

Mine do not run continuously. I think I have it set for 70 F. But then, I can adjust it, or if need be, turn it off.

Wouldn't a cut out @ 90 degrees be too low? On a warm day the fans would run continuous.

Hi Moisheh,

I used a mechanical adjustable thermostat. It ran today even though the weather here is coolish. I think 130 F is far too hot for a cut in temperature.

Don remember all the test data threads I posted 2-3 years ago when we installed our Amish cooling unit. A 130F down to 110F cycles would be about ideal the best I remember. If the top coils do not get really hot the temperature gradient just is not there that is needed. While Norcold pushed their cooling units demands too far in the 1200 series they do know the best temperature of the disc settings I expect. 🙂

We found in our Norcold 6162 short of triple digits the fan(s) helped a bit on the initial cool down especially if on propane because of all the waste heat but not in day to day usage that was worth the drain on the batteries if no shore power.

Yes the 1200 needs a lot of help.
