Strange popping noise

On the way home this week from a long trip we noticed a strange pop that happened only intermittently. We might drive for half an hour without hearing it, then it would happen again. There is no pattern to it and we can't hear it thru the open window, although it may not have sounded during the time the window was open.

We have a 2006 PW Excel with the Ford 5.4L V-8 and 60,000 miles on it. There is no sign that the engine runs rough in any way.

Has this happened to any other owners? I will appreciate any feedback.

Look for something hanging loose in a cabinet or closet. They do strange things.

If you have an awning, check the fabric awning strap that hangs down and is used to pull the awning out with the metal hook.

This can flap in the wind and cause a popping sound when it hits the side of the coach.

Another thing to check is the TV antenna on the roof. If the wind catches it just right, it can cause the antenna to move slightly - which sounds like something is moving on the roof.
