Switched back to a DP

Well, we just made a commitment to purchase our 5th motorhome and second diesel pusher. For the past 4 seasons we've been driving a 2006 Jayco 35GS Seneca HD. I guess they consider it a 'Super C' since its on a Chevy 5500 medium duty truck chassis. Its been a great trouble free coach, but since we're 'doing' Alaska next year, we decided to get back into a DP.

We traded in our Seneca (and some cash) for a 2008 Tuscany 4072 (four slide) powered by the 8.3L 360HP Cummins. Our last DP was a 2003 Phaeton with a 330 CAT. The 330 CAT (about 900 pd-ft or torque)did a great job pushing our Phaeton down the road, so I suspect the Cummins (1050 pd-ft torque) will do a good job with the Tuscany. I know the Tuscany is not the high end of the DP food chain, but we like the layout and features of this particular coach, so we're gonna give it a whirl..

We just switched from a Jayco Seneca 35 GS to a Newmar Dutch Star. We had a lot of issues with the Seneca. The Dutch Star is a beautifully built motorhome. 370 HP Cummins, 6 speed Alison Tranny on a Spartan Chassis. So far we are thrilled with it. Looking forward to heading out to the Southern US in November.

Enjoy your new MoHo and may she give you many miles of trouble free traveling.

We have a 2004 DSDP which we traded our 2005 Winnebago Class A gas for. A few problems but not unexpected for a pre-owned unit. Be aware that a number of Spartan chassis in your/our year range will possibly have ball joint problems due to poor quality rubber boot cover quality. Ours will be replaced this fall to the tune of $2500. Spartan was aware of the problem but "it's out of warranty" is their response. If you didn't ask, they didn't tell.
