Fire map to use for travel

Here is a link to the active fire mapping by the US Forest Service. Last year we changed our travel route because the Grand Tetons were not even visible through the smoke because of a wild fire near Jackson. I just read where the fire near Yosemite just tripled in size overnight. IN any case, if you are traveling in the West right now, you may want to check what is going on so that it does not ruin your plans completely. Active fire mapping website

Here in northern Minnesota, we could be on that list shortly. We are dry and getting drier. Parts of my lawn are crispy (we are on a well). The woods are dry and there is a lot of fuel on the ground. The only wet part is along the international border. Currently we are in a "moderate" drought.

As of this morning, they announced on the news that, there are over 50 uncontrolled fires in the West. Hopefully there will be some rain to help.

Thanks for the info Ronnie I wasn't aware of fire maps. Hopefully, they will have it out soon I'll be driving by there in about 40 days!

This is the site we use. You can do a sort in the top right corner by state which is helpful and it gives very detailed information with the updated time.

Thanks

A small fire can become a big fire rather quickly so you really need to keep track of things.

Interesting. Only traveling here in the east, I would not have thought to look for such a map. Great tip!
