TIRES

My class A has a 22.5 tire all the way around, a friend at a trucking company (he buys loads of tires the same size that is on our motorhome) A Continental is $520 he will mount and balance free, Bridgestone priced at $530 again mount and balance free. He has been trying a new tire on the market called Ironman $250 same deal on mount and balance, He has run the Ironman on his drive axles since they were new, 50000 miles no problems. The Ironman tire is made in China. Please any and all opinions are welcome a big decision, and if the Ironman tire has any problems it is not for me. I forgot to mention the only tire he does not use is Firestone, he told me he had a few problems that he never had again even with the Ironman Chinese tire. Thought I should clarify the rear tires are three years old the left front is 8 years old it was put on by the original owner when he was out and needed it to get home (he had been carrying it in the basement in case of a blowout and road service could not get one soon enough) the right front steer is one year old. I was advised by my friend that he never changed just one steer tire. With that my plan is to buy two of whichever of the above I decide on. and keep the right steer that is a year old as a spare as of now we have enough storage to do that. Also I have only owned the 2002 Monaco Diplomat for a couple weeks . Which ever way you cut it then it would be $500.00 for two tires or $1060.00 for the non Chinese tire. decisions decisions , always seem to have money involved.

Listening to a trucker's advice is foolish. I drive an a 8 wheeler every summer. Long Haul. Trailers often have cheap Chinese trailers installed. Trailer tires don't last long so they figure why not. But you rarely see them on steers. The smart O/O's will have Michelins or another high line tire on the steers and often on the drives. When a trucker blows a drive or trailer tire usually there is not much damage to the unit. BUT on our MH's not only is there often physical damage to the body, wiring and air lines can be damaged. EXPENSIVE fix. There are many good brands of Asian tires. They do not sell for $200!! Hankook are excellent and OEM on Navistar and others. Tires is not an item where you want to buy the cheapest available. Nor would you want to listen to the constant hum from cheap tires.

If i could give an opinion, whats the complete size, I took the factory goodyears off after i had two different blowouts within two months and only 19,000 miles on it. I have managed a les schwab here in wa, state. Age is a factor and quality of the tire. Spend a bit of money, get a good brand, do all the same, not two different in front from rear. Contrary to popular belief, you can rotate modern tires and change direction with no problems, for example, the two fronts to the right rear, then the fronts again to the left rear, straight back and to the front, which helps equal wear and longevity. Buy the highest load rating available in your size and if itโ€™s more than the factory load rating, you may adjust air psi, usually a bit higher depending on tread, the higher load rating helps the tire USUALLY not flex as much and helps keep it in a sense cooler, not working or flexing as hard. The more the tire flexes or works, the warmer it gets and can affect life. And remember to ask the place you buy them, especially if its a size they dont go through a lot of, to look at the D.O.T. Number on the side. They might of been sitting around for a few years or more, check when they are off the production line and get fresh ones. I put toyos on my coach, they ride nice and are a good top of the line product in my opinion.

That's about what we paid, at our local tire dealer. for XA3s

And a LOT more than we paid for our 11R22.5 Bridgestones. :W

I have the weekend to still think it over. And just because you get the most expensive tire doesn't mean it's the best.
